Title: MI Audio Crunch box: volume issue
Post by: guile on April 22, 2015, 09:17:46 AM
I have an original  MI Audio Crunch box from 2005 with volume problems. At first the volume would change too radically at 09.00. Very hard to dial in. So I changed the 100kb pot to 100ka hoping that this would make dialing in easier. Unfortunately now it won't dial in at all; it's maxed out all the time; changing back to the 100kb pot doesn't change it.
Would anyone have an idea?

Sounds like the bottom end of the pot (toward the CCW direction) is no longer connected to ground. Make sure you didn't lift the pad for that lug/pin (assuming board mounted pots). You can always tack a wire from that lug to a known ground point, like the sleeve connection of the output jack.

Hmm. Still needs some work. I got it working thanks to oldhousescott. But the 100kb pot is too sensitive. It's already at unity at about 7.30 - 08.00.
Or is this typical for this pedal (MI-audio Crunch box v1)?

A 100ka should help with the taper if you're willing to take another swing at it.

Tried that, helps a little but still massive amounts of volume. Must be the nature of the beast.
Thanks!
