I'm building a cave dweller and SB doesn't have any in stock, so, are there any trannies that can replace the LM78L05?

A LM7805 would work if it would fit, but if you're putting this in a 1590a it would probably be too bulky.
You could grab some off ebay from thaishine or ask if someone will send you one in the parts jar room.

Tayda sells them.

It's a regulator, not a "normal" transistor. The only substitute is a different 5v regulator, and the only other 5v regulator I'm aware of is the one Haberdasher mentioned, which has a heat sink.

Awesome, thanks! And no, I'm not putting it in a 1590a.

The legs on LM7805 are going to be wider so I'm unsure if it would fit into the pcb.  It's quite a bit larger.
I'd probably play it safe & try to get the 78L05 somewhere.  It's worth buying a few extra since any future delays you build that use a PT2399 are going to call for one as well.

Alright, I'll keep that in mind. I found that Mammoth has them in stock, on a side note.
