Oh, I see.  It's clearance with the 9mm pots.  Shoot!  I hate to make such a small order.

Tech Help - Projects Page / LEDs for DigDug build

Is there any reason to not use 5mm LEDs for the DigDug2 build? Will the holes be too close? Is it a concern considering the height of the LEDs?

Just wondering because I have a ton of 5mm LEDs on hand and only a few mixed colors of 3mm.

Regardless, I should use the same color and manufacturer because the FV of the LED affects the CD4017, correct?

Amazing build, friend.

No worries. I got a Dig Dug 2 to build. :D

;D

I see you already have them in the works. LOL 😆

Thanks, man.

I ordered a Dig Dug 2. I'll be happy to build a Wumpus, too. Thanks for the kind give away.  :)

I'll just be talking about the Tractor Bean over there, to myself, in the corner, alone.  :P

But really the Tractor Bean is really the best phaser I've ever come across.

Forget that, I want to know about the Juan Epstein pedal.
Is kinda like an EP Booster with a gain, level and high cut. It works well in the loop.

Build Reports / Tractor Beam

I have an MXR 95 and I'm just not exactly thrilled with it.  It sounds awful in the loop and is weak in front of the amp.  I decided to replace it.

The Tractor beam was a bit challenging because of the small parts and tight fit.  You have to put the pots in last but there are capacitors surrounding the solder pads.  I scorched a few components with the side of my soldering iron but that's no big deal.  I made a huge mistake while building.  I originally put a 1/8w 1k resistor in the power input but after some calculations figured I better go with the 1/2w as suggested. Unfortunately, I pulled out the 10M resistor and put the 1/2w 1k resistor in it's place instead.  That didn't work.  It's really no fun to pull out those Neutrik jacks after soldering them in.

Regardless it turned out well:

(that's with the 1k resistor in the 10M resistor's place  :-[)

It's earned a permanent spot on my pedalboard:

Worst part about this pedal: I'm so pissed it wasn't called Tractor Bean. :p

UGH! When I replaced the 1k 1/8w resistor with the suggested 1/2w I put the 1k resistor in place of the 10M resistor. So that makes the input impedance of the effect 1k.  :o  It sure was dark and quiet.

Let me say, it's a real (B-WORD) taking out those Neutrik jacks.  >:(  Now turning up the 200k trimpot really does distort really nicely. LOL.  Can I order a new switch board by itself?

I'm going to go over it piece by piece and make sure I didn't make a mistake with component values and I'm also going to bypass the switching and just go into and out of the audio board.

The trim pot is handy because if you adjust it for the effects loop it's way, way, way too low before the amp and vice versa.  Makes me think I've still got something wrong.

I think the odd-ball 1.43k resistors were bad.  Two of them disintegrated after I unsoldered them.  It still works with the 200k LEVEL trim pot so I'll keep it.

This is one phaser that sounds much better in the effects loop.  Usually, I prefer them before the amp.

Messing with this one also made me think to adjust my MXR Phase 95.  Previously, I wasn't happy with it because it pulsed instead of swept evenly.  I adjusted the trim pot and it sounds much better.

Regardless, I love the versatility of the Tractor Beam and I'll probably integrate it into my pedalboard.
