Title: Finally, some new builds... (one possibly offensive)
Post by: juansolo on September 06, 2014, 10:09:17 PM
It's not that I haven't been building anything, it's just that I haven't been putting anything in boxes... I have a HUGE box of effects that need enclosures, so I thought I'd better start making some headway into them. Plus a couple of 'customer' builds I needed to get done. I'll get the big one out of the way first.

The Gilmourizer
Another multi for Phil, the idea this time being Gilmour in a box.

In there is a Grind Customs Rotten Komp, into a Iron Bell clone on a Spin Cycle FX PCB, the output of that goes through a noise gate fabbed by Haberdasher, then we're on to a Madbean Fatpants booster and finally a Madean ZeroPoint Mini Delay.

As per the brief this really does do Gilmour in a box. There are a couple of pre-sets on the Iron Bell that give approximations of certain eras to make it easy to dial in too.

Despite the ballache putting this together* was, I'm really impressed with this one. To the point I'll be making one of these for me. However I'll be doing it in a much bigger box as the one above is ludicrously tight. The Gate is stuck to the base and hangs in the gap between all the other boards. Not pretty, but secure.

*This one fought me at every bloody stage. Things the wrong way around on the decal, seemingly every pot backwards at some point, a microscopic broken track on the gate, I managed to trash the original delay (it has mine in it from an old 1590A build), etc... Just one thing after another. Compounded by the fact that I needed to assemble the thing in two days.

However, it's really bloody good... So I'll be refining this one a bit and building the one for me in a much bigger box. We're gonna do our own take on the P19/Iron Bell type muff, sticking it in a 1550G will give me space to fit in a ZeroPoint DD as the delay (fancying having a go at some off board active filtering on that maybe as I want that board with the analogue filter from the big one...), and to squeeze in a CE-2 clone too...

Anyhow, in the words of Conan; Enough talk!

Valnott
THE black metal pedal (dime Hi, Low and Gain and you're in a black metal nightmare). PCB is from Tinnitus Industries (3SecondRule).

The name comes from a rather epic video by The Austerity Program because it can do that perfectly too (drop the high and lows) ;) I'd have put a walnut in there had it fitted...

Clone Theory
A Clone Theory clone on a Celeste Chorus PCB from Lectric-FX (Haberdasher). A bit of a departure for me on the decal again, like I did for the Small Clone, it's a clone of the Clone Theory design. Came out quite nice I thought.

Ben's Box
Another unusual request for a very specific job. Two sets of guitar electronics in a complete passive switch box. Built as requested, Taa daa!

Those are fantastic, buy you'll have to try harder to be offensive!

Sweet builds Juan.

How do you do Gilmour with no flanger? I thought I was gonna see a Current Lover in there somewhere.

Needs a CE2 in there too really. But I was somewhat pushed for space ;)

I'm not in the least offended by the red box...

If someone actually can read the black metal font they might be... Plus upside down crosses, pentagrams, number of the beast type stuff tends to offend Christians (but is all part of the black metal thing). So I thought it was appropriate to at least put a warning up.

Ohhh, if that offends Christians ( and I am one) they take themselves way too serious. I thought younger talking about the naked chic. I was looking forward to more of that.

Serious challenge to decide if your Clone Theory or Haberdashers build was nicer... Clone off!

Stellar! You're making it look routine because you are prodigious MoFoSolo.

The death metal one is so incoherent that you'd have to study the art for awhile to be offended, by which argument it could be self-inflicted. It's probably not going to sell until a photograph of your suicide via shotgun to the head is used as coverart for bootleg recordings, though. (Pers.)

Gilmourish is pretty damn good, though :)

Wow Juan. Really really great stuff. I love the Gilmour in a box. What do all those trimmers on the 3pdt toggle do? I've never seen anything like that before. Really brilliant builds. Thank you for sharing. I learn so much just from seeing your builds.  ;D

Trimmers are pre-sets for the sustain and colour controls. They're pre-set as per this video for the Gdansk/Animals clips. Purely so he can just flip between them. One is a more scooped more Ram's heady sound that the other. Works quite well.

I should also mention the gate. One of the setting is utterly dimed on the sustain and it's a little noisy. Hence I stuck a Decimator on the output of the muff. This is because if you kill a note without it the noise gets amplified and repeated by the boost and delay. With it, perfect silence. Really works beautifully in here.

...and many thanks all *blushes* I worry that I'm so set in my ways that my stuff gets a little routine/boring these days.

Burzum, one of the most Kvlt Black metal band out there with Dark Throne.... Make à little search and everything you just said makes lot of sense ;)

Keefe is gonna hate us. Cleggy (marauder) and I have been doing more experimenting with the high output humbucker issue now we've got two Celeste's to back-to-back with and the pair of us here to make the experimentage easier...

The original fix adds too much noise IMO. Currently by reverting to stock and changing R3 to 300k we've had better results. However, for some bizarre reason, we now can't get mine anywhere near it...

This is very odd...

Can't get yours anywhere near what exactly?

Fancy moving this over to the Lectric FX Forum?

The best thing to do really for high output pickups would be adding a compander...

As per usual, the craftsmanship of these is staggeringly good. I love how effortlessly you can combine 4 circuits, all the pots and switches, 4 daughter boards, and then just casually toss in a decimator for good measure. And it doesn't approach chaotic.

I am so offended... black and white knobs on a red enclosure? thought this was a family forum. lol

I'm not sure how I missed this build initially, they all look great. I love the idea of having the trimmers on the 3PDT switch, simply briliant. My wife was laughing about the LED in the woman's buttcrack lol
