Just announced:

http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=102861.0

$5 entry fee, very good prizes so far and we will add more as they are confirmed.

Builds to be posted during August, so everyone's got lots of time to think up their entries!

I've talked with Brian and this will not interfere in any way with the Madbean contests.

I'm pretty bummed that once again I can't enter. I do both hobby building and production building. It's a bit frustrating to not even be allowed to enter my DIY efforts. I feel I'm a pretty big part of the DIY pedal community.

Honestly, I don't think it's occurred to anyone in previous contests that there's a difference between production BUILDS and production BUILDERS. Let me check with the judges.

Hey guys....

Having been a contributor to the last competition over there, I can explain the reasoning.

The reason that was put in the last competition was because we did not want people to shy away from entering because they would not be able to compete.

For example, if you were wanting to enter your DIY build in the competition and knew it would be going against a Basic Audio entery, FrequencyCentral entry, NicoFX entry, etc. and some of these people have 1, 2, or 3 man teams assisting with their builds.... it would put people off. It doesn't matter if that person did it all themselves or it was a one-off... there was still the hint of "unfairness" to others that would enter.
I know it seems unfair to some of the production builders however, there is nothing wrong with a "Production Builder's Build-off"

In the end, it is up to Jon and the rest of the judges to make up the rules. NO ONE ELSE! I am just trying to explain the reasoning behind the last contest over there.

I cant wait to see the competition unfold as I have enjoyed watching the one(s) here unfold.

I applaud Jon and the rest of the judges for putting it together as well as Brian for doing it here.

Viva La DIY!!!!

Curt, you know I have the utmost respect for you and the efforts made in that Turkey build-off. I completely understood and appreciated that.

But this is the 10 year DIY stompboxes anniversary community build off. I've been a part of that community for a half a decade, and I'm being excluded because I might have more experience than other builders. You have to understand, even if I've built pedals for sale, my typical builds don't truly compete against some of the stuff coming up in the monthly contests around here. There are guys who's first few pedals blow my stuff out of the water all the time. There are also plenty of builders out there who have built 100+ pedals but not sold them or gone into production, so where is the line of experience that is drawn in which it's unfair?

I'm sorry, I'm unloading about this I guess. It's not that I'm angry at you at all Curt, because I fully understood your last contest, nor am I angry at Jon or John or Jim for their current contest. But quite frankly, I'm being excluded from the community that I've worked and spent enormous hours at building towards. I agree that some might find it unfair, but at this point, you have to ask whether anyone should be excluded from a DIY Community's 10 year anniversary buildoff unfair or not.

The obvious answer is to have a couple categories -- noob, hobby, and hardcore. I think TDPRI do this with their build-offs (but with nicer labels, obviously.)

Rule 5 was changed to allow commercial builders with some sensible restrictions to keep the playing field level.

Thanks to Jacob for clearly articulating the reasons to leave out this rule this time around and Greg for articulating potential hazards.

@jacob

I understand where you are coming from. Frankly, I think that Jon has worded it perfectly and I think it should be a fantastic contest. I applaud all of the judges for putting it together as it creates inspiration AND much needed revenue for the sites that inspire us all.

@Jon

Im glad that you changed it to include EVERYONE after some careful thought. I think it is going to be a great thing. I really enjoy these contests whether it be here (im just a newbie here) or over there (been there for some time now  :o)

Now I need to decide whether or not to enter AND where to enter  ::)

Cheers All,

Greg (a.k.a. Curt)  ;D

Bumping this thread for visibility.

Remember, entering a pedal in the DIYSB contest will not interfere with the Madbean contests, and there's still plenty of time to enter.

Plus we just added a few more cool prizes, so check out the last post in the thread.

midwayfair

Last week for this contest. If anyone's got a nice build about to be completed before the 31st, film a quick demo, hop over to DIYSB and enter the contest. Many, many prizes and not a ton of entries (at least yet).

(Also, just a reminder that the Madbean September contest will include August builds, and I think Brian is .)

pickdropper

Yeah, jump in guys.  There are tons of cool prizes.  A lot of folks (including me) have chipped in, so I think it's worth your time to enter.
