Thanks that's made it much clearer.

Please forgive my photoshop skills but is there ever a situation where the legs need to be crossed?

Like this for instance.

Thanks again!

Hi.
I'm gearing up for my first build and have pretty much everything in place. The only thing that is still throwing me is transisotr pinouts.  There are hundreds of threads dedicated to this but that makes it even more confusing as there's lots of contradicting advice.
On the madbean Krankosaurus layout, 2 of the transistors legs are labelled S and D.  What is this refering to? Where ever else I look the legs are labelled E, B, C. ???

On other madbean layouts (Deadringer) the transisors aren't labelled at all (other than Q1, Q2 etc).  How are you able to know how to orientate them in this case?  ??? ???

Thanks.

Build Reports / Re: Krankasaurus

It certainly does! Thank you very much!

The videos are great.  I'd love to give this ago but it seems pretty dificult to get a powder coating gun in the UK for under £150 ($230).  Wish we had Freight Harbour over here! :-\

I forgot to say that your Krankosaurus looks ace.  The Krank is gong to be my first build and I'll be happy if it turns out half as good as yours did!  Great work! :)

Open Discussion / Good vlaue DMM in the UK

Hey!
I'm looking at picking up my first DMM and wondered if anyone else on here who is in the UK could recommend me a decent one that wont empty my wallet.
I know there are tons of 'What DMM should I buy' threads but they all seem to recommend ones that can only be bought from US stores such as Radio Shack. :-\
Any other UK DIYers able to suggets something suitable?
Thanks guys/girls!

Thanks that's brilliant. What LDRs and LEDs did you use? Are the ones on the board just wrapped in heat shrink?

I don't suppose you could share a link to the Lightwah info on the DIYstompboxes site could you?  I'm having trouble finding it.
Great builds and finishes too.  Nothing short of amazing.

General Questions / Re: What pot when?

Thank you all! I'd somehow overlooked the A B or C after the pot values. They make things infinitely more easy to understand. Ha.  ;D

I recently ordered the newer version of the DoomButter from Haberdasher (great guy by the way!) which can be found on the FSB forum

http://freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4000&start=120  (the PDF is about 3/4 down the page)

I'm just putting together a parts order list for this and a few other things and I'm a bit stuck with the SPST switch needed for the fuzz lift mod.  Should it be On-On or On-Off?

Thanks.

Thanks, just as I expected.
So for instance, if a build says to use a 25kb pot for a blend knob, I'm best off buying a linear and a log pot to see which one works best?

General Questions / What pot when?
November 17, 2011, 10:10:04 PM
Hey there!
Is there a rule of thumb to learn when knowing what kind of pot to use for different functions?
I know that log/audio pots are used for volume but what should be used for gain, blend, boost etc?
Thanks.

Just seen your post about this on another thread.  Is this the one you used?

Did you ever work this out?  I'm hoping to build one soonish and could do with some more info on the LDR.

How easy are they to build?
Cheers.
