Hey there!
Is there a rule of thumb to learn when knowing what kind of pot to use for different functions?
I know that log/audio pots are used for volume but what should be used for gain, blend, boost etc?
Thanks.

jkokura

Nope. Experimentation is your friend.

Thanks, just as I expected.
So for instance, if a build says to use a 25kb pot for a blend knob, I'm best off buying a linear and a log pot to see which one works best?

jkokura

Well, you could do that, but when it says "25KB" that means 25K Linear.

Guy, I've wondered that myself, but pretty much what I see is other than audio for volume, the linear pots are used 90% of the time for much of the rest. I know it has something to do with how humans hear and the frequencies we perceive at certain volumes etc....

Don't forget about reverse audio for more confusion  :D

Thank you all! I'd somehow overlooked the A B or C after the pot values. They make things infinitely more easy to understand. Ha.  ;D
