Title: About that negative nine volt connector thing...
Post by: Now they tell me on July 07, 2017, 05:52:02 PM
Hello.

Should I be concerned that standard pedalboard wiring has positive voltage on the outside of the connectors?  The panel-mount jacks that I am aware of have the outside terminal "grounded" to the chassis.  So your whole system is positive ground, which I guess is okay if there isn't a nine volt negative ground anywhere in the system.

Right?
.

Nope. Tip (inside)is negative on a standard pedalboard. You're good.

I don't think that that is true.  I'm looking at a little buffer card.  It has one terminal labelled "9 Volts" and another labelled "Ground".  You're saying that I should connect them together to the same place.  I don't see how that would work.

Center is negative. Sleeve is positive. It's why we use fully insulated (aka plastic) DC jacks.

Looking forward to seeing what you build, by the way. Will this be your first pedal?
