It's old technology but I recorded some impulse responses of my Ampeg Gemini II's reverb. Small Ampeg combos were used a lot in studios on the East Coast before it was cost effective for Fender to ship from California...their sound is on spy movie soundtracks, surf music, and more recently early Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Daptone/Dap-kings. The demo below was recorded with an amp that didn't have reverb--convolution doesn't completely catch the sound of springs but it's close. I'm also thinking about recording IR's directly from the reverb pot (pre output tubes/speaker) for use with the Logidy Epsi...

The signal chain was 10s sine sweep->Ampeg Gemini II with varying levels of reverb->P12RJ speaker in a 4x12 cab->SM57

Thanks Jeff, I used to be a huge impulse junkie but as of late I have been using Nebula with Logic Pro and really digging it. I am not sure the process for making "captures" of hardware for Nebula but it seems like a fun job.

I will give your IR's a try.

Thanks for the response man. It might be worth it to play with cutting off the first 14-20 ms at the beginning of the IRs, softens the attack a little...

I tried sampling with Nebula but it's weird...NAT3 (the sampler) is PC only, so I tried it with my pc and it only gave the "vector" file but not the "program" file. I like using Nebula pretty well as a consumer but I feel like it could have a bit better designed interface. Sampling in Nebula is not very well documented (and I feel like there's some kind of Developers Only version of NAT3) but I'll keep looking into Nebula

Apparently Nebula has something like a 10 harmonic limit, which rules out accurately modelling fuzz pedals. Someday there'll be multi-layer, dynamic convolution...

Thanks, this'll be fun to play around with!

You had me at Daptone and Spy Movies!

Thanks dude.

There is an impule in the Ableton Live library called 'Amazing Stereo Spring' and it is my favourite.

I'll make sure to check yours out.

Bumping this to say I recorded an IR directly out of the reverb circuit on the Ampeg Gemini and added it to the files...it sounds even better than the other IRs in my opinion (which went out a speaker/through an SM57). The one thing that bugs me is how slightly different IRs sound than the spring...not as dynamic, there's a weird high end ring. If anyone has a Logidy Epsi, please try it out and let me know how it sounds! I want one pretty bad
