... but the problem is going to be getting 9VDC from the 9VAC supply. The losses in the rectification are going to take you below 9V. ...

Really? I am converting 12VAC to +/-12VDC right here myself... with 7812 / 7912 regulators. I should look for the exact schematic i used, for some reason i dont know where to find it atm.

Sure there are solutions for your task. I browsed a bit and found this for a start:
http://www.tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=111

Musicfromouterspace also have a project:
http://www.musicfromouterspace.com (browse site for power supply)

... or you can make your own i guess, just borrow parts from the schematics above. Its basically just to rectify, regulate and filter.

I play guitar (preferably electric), and i sing.

I have also recorded/produced quite a bit, where i "play everything" myself, which means i dabble (is "dabble" the correct term in this context?) with electric bass and keyboard, and do drum programming.

My first instrument was piano, and i do have a beauty 19th century Schwesten upright, here at home.

I happened to have a pre-drilled at hand, so i tried a common neutrik jack through the stompswitch hole. It works just fine. Not many mm-s margin, but a little is sometimes enuff.

Cheers

Edit: to avoid confusion; the pictured box is an Eddystone "BB", it has exactly the same height as Hammond 1590BB.

R6: You actually do need to jumper across the two round fat switch pads

R21: is unnecessary if you leave out the switch. I am not certain what it does, but I am positive you can leave it off...

Right! I stand corrected.

Actually, i was looking at the "old" version/schematic of the Green Bean (thats the one i have myself, dated 09.26.11), and the newer one (which i am sure you refer to) has a different routing! "My old" fat switch is an SPST.

So, i take back my previous post. Thanx for correcting me.

I am building a Green Bean for a friend of mine. He swears by his vintage TS9 so I want to make this a "better" TS9. So I want to make some modifications. I have some thoughts and some questions on how to accomplish this.

1) Replace R15 with 470 ohm resistor
2) Replace R16 with with 100K resistor
3) Omit AS/SYM switch and extra diodes. Which pads on the switch do I jumper - the two round pads or the middle round pad and the square pad? Which diodes do I omit?
4) Omit FAT switch and extra capacitor. Which pads on the switch do I jumper - the two round pads or the middle round pad and the square pad? I can omit C5 correct?

Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
BuzzKing

3) if you dont want asym clipping, skip D1, D2 and D3 but keep D4 and D5. Then you shall jumper 2-3 on the omitted comp switch. I dont remember if that is left+middle or right+middle on the pcb layout though. I dont think the pads are marked 1-2-3. Measure with your DMM.

4) Just skip C5 and the physical switch. No need to jumper anything.

I have had problems as well, but it seems better now. Among other things i had errors when clicking "show unread posts..."(!). Also i noticed a quad-posted build thread, of course not intentionally caused by the ts.

..but again, seems better now.

Bengt, pretty good stuff :) (I'll admit I was expecting a 4049 or something, though!)

No worries;) ... some 4049 will show up in my next build report, so you're home safe!

Are you going to use your Grön FET Skreemah to rock out on some old-school Ebba Grön tunes?

Häng Gud!!!!  ;D

Nicccce Bengt!
how does it sound in comparison with a TS? a sound test would be great!!
cheers

Thanx Gledison. I think i replied part of your question in prev post.

But yea, i should make (record) an A/B test. I have a Grean Bean built as close as possible to a original TS808.

Hm.

I know you actually think about this stuff, so: Why did you go for the MOSFET buffers? I find them to be particularly dark as source followers, so did you have to make any other changes, for filtering and such? I mean, other than you had a ton of them from the group buy! :)

in all honesty, this design (which is more than a year old...) has very little to do with the group buy... though it suited the time fairly good to box up one more 8)

No i didnt make any specific changes to compensate. I like the slightly darker well-defined sound of the FET buffers. I think the answer to the "why" question is simpler; In the first place (that one year back) i felt like doing a TS with a somehow unique but clean design (few mods and switches), a gift for a friend. So i "borrowed/tried" the FET idea from BYOC and well, i liked the result.

Im not sure if it sounds "better" than the stock TS (or Grean Bean w no mods), but it is... a little bit different.

Hmm. Im following maybe the most longlasting(?) of all diy-trends here, and design my own version of the TS. i did the first one-sided etched version about a year ago (http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=6845.msg58580#msg58580), and just recently i tightened the layout, re-added the clipping switch and made it two-sided.

Again: i started with the madbean open TS project, did some changes (where the most important is buffer change; this one has FET BS170-buffers, BYOC OD2-style), and here it is.

Of course its a fantastic little box, as the TS' always is:)

Lazy handwritten böx-design. In some angles man can read what it sais!

***
I have spare pcb-s if someone is interested. Maybe someone more out there need somewhere to put their BS170-s;) ? But i wont make no big business around this, its not the first nor the most revolutionary Screamer out there.

Cheers!
