Title: 11.14 - Update on shipping
Post by: madbean on November 14, 2011, 02:54:15 PM
I've received shipping notification from the manufacturer for the pre-order boards this morning. This means that the pre-order boards will actually start shipping on Nov.16th or 17th since it usually takes about three days to get them to TN. I've kept all the pre-orders well organized so I expect to start sending them out the same day. It might take a couple of days to get everything out....the pre-order thing was a huge success (yay) but it takes a bit of time to bag and tag 100+ orders.

Thanks to everyone who participated. I feel comfortable enough with the process that I will do pre-ordering again for the next batch of projects.

On that note, I'm actually quite close to placing the next order. The past three weeks have been absolutely frustrating as hell. Every single build, prototype, idea has had problems (none of which are important enough to go into). It's a bit discouraging...yesterday I found myself saying "okay, let's build the next failure", ha ha. But, I've slogged through the issues one by one and passed a tipping point, so to speak. I'm quite energized to keep things moving at a fast pace.

Anyway, I'll have more details at the end of the week on what the next batch will be. I expect there to be between 5-7 additional projects. I would like to get at least ONE sub-mini tube project in there, and one or two of the baby boards.

Also, we are going to get this end of the year contest going. I've been dragging ass on that but I will touch base with the party planners ASAP so we can have something announced. Prizes will be offered, women will swoon, and pets will rejoice.

And in case any one is wondering, I am, indeed, keepin' it real.

The pre-ordering must help quite a bit so I think it's a great idea.  I will continue to support it.

Wow- I get frustrated when one of my builds doesn't work, and those are already verified by someone else.  I can't imagine what you must go through designing these things 5 & 6 at a time.  Anyway, good luck to you and keep up the great work!

Stoked about the upcoming projects!

After all that whining this morning I got my sub mini version of the Rump Roast going. Mother of god it sounds good! Hands down one of the best overdrives I've played.

A bit loud.

Exactly. Anybody who asks me for birthday/Christmas present ideas these days, I just send them Madbean's website link with the statement, "No, not looking for anything in particular. Surprise me."

Also, for the amount of time I spend reading this board, 5 posts is a joke. Going to have to start chiming in.  :)

Right on! Your doing so much greatness and making it available to all of us. I'm still in awe that you tackled the EM and DMM projects. That is a quite an accomplishment I must say! I will be ordering these new boards, probably when the next batch drops (hopefully they aren't all sold out!).
I must ask, what's the word w/ the moodring and weener wah?
Title: Re: 11.14 - Update on shipping
Post by: madbean on November 15, 2011, 09:48:58 PM
The Moodring is dead in the water ATM. Which is to say, the design is actually pretty near done, but it's on the backburner. Actually, it's been on one of my proto rigs for three months now. I will get back to it, but not until december or jan.

The Weener Wah just got a new layout which I am going to build ASAP. No ETA, but it is at least in progress now.

Order submitted. Been watching DMM videos and I'm twitching to get it running.

Also snagged a mudbunny. I loved my Green Russian all those years ago.
Any suggestions on a favorite variant? I'm leaning toward the basic triangle since it seems the smoothest - more fuzz than buzz.

My favorite is Violet Rams Head..if you add the mids knob you can get a really smooth sound even on the treble turn of the tone knob.

So far all the boosts/overdrives are based off the 6111. The 6021 might work. IIRC, they have much higher gain. The 5672 are used as output tubes for the amps I've worked up, but I haven't even built the first amp yet.

Send & Return pads, they'd be used to add a short delay in to the audio path to produce through zero flanging.

Ya could stick other stuff in there... dunno what it'll be like though.

why this pedal needs particular components?
i read stuff about the caps, what's wrong with standard caps?

Some people like changing all the 4558s to TL072 and claim a noticeable difference, so I don't see why not.

Correction to the Honey Dripper doc: if using two 5.1v Zeners to replicate the original power supply scheme, the zener that goes in place of R41 should have the band facing toward the left side, ie toward C19. The second one faces toward the right side, i.e. C20.

These new docs are fantastic. I really like the notes. Can't wait to get started.

Just placed an order with Smallbear for what I hope are the last few parts I need to build the Dirtbag, Current Lover and HoneyDripper. Fingers crossed I haven't forgotten anything, there always seems to be something that slips through the net, no matter how thorough I think I'm being. I've got quite a few projects sitting there waiting for just one capacitor, resistor, pot, diode ...  :P

My Boards arrived today, thanks Bean.
Cant wait to have a DMM and DEM built up.

You da man

Got a few other things on the boil first
Way Huge Aqua Puss and the Grean Bean, but I reckon I wont hold out for more than a week before I get them all cooking.

Usual quality as expected (i.e. the best)

Mr B. I was wondering if you had any update on the Retrograde and the other boards down for Nov?

There won't be any other releases for Nov, but I will update the website for a modified release schedule. The only constraint I have now in putting out 8-10 projects in Dec. is figuring out what my budget is. I'll see about getting the Retrograde in the next batch....need to figure out exactly what is ready to go.

No Clock Buffer?

That's the thing I am considering for a revision...basically why I did not release it with the last batch. It's working pretty but a bit on the noisy side.

Well a buffer wont reduce the nosie but to get it in to the original clock range specs, it's gunna need a buffer.

Is it also 3007 only? I see what I assume is a charge pump and the regulator on there (very cool by the way, definitley keep that in) but no jumpers.

May be add the buffer and re-fit for a 1590BB like the original? We already have the Electric Mistress for the 125B and I assume with the addition of a buffer you'll have to re-do the board to an extent that requires a second prototype any way.

More spacing may also help to reduce that noise, although I think the fact that this is a more intense flanger than the Electric Mistress, but without the noise reduction of say the A/DA, may explain it.

That's pretty much where I was going. This one will be MN3007 only, as you pointed out. The extra IC also means a 125B is going to be quite hard. So, I think a complete re-design as you mention is what has to happen.

Here is the revised schematic. I basically copied the 4049 buffer over from the Current Lover. Let me know what you think.

I think with the Charge Pump on board, it'll be nice to have this as a dedicated 3007 Flanger and with a larger enclosure, it can be a 15V Flanger with a Battery! Sounds cool to me.

From reading around, things on this do get a bit noisy so i'd take it as normal.

Schematic Looks good to me, one small suggestion, Send & Return pads, I think the 117 is pretty much the perfect candidate for TZF because of its intense sound.

What do you think of releasing a Delay add on PCB as there's two flangers out now? Don't imagine it'd have to be huge and it would have the added benefit of being a stand alone 'Thickener' circuit. I suppose the demand might not be huge though... or you could put it all on one board in a 1590BB...  :P

And this -

Hi Ramengo,

Still waiting for mine to arrive in France, so nothing to worry about.
First class international is usually faster (7-12 business days) but these delays are not uncommon.
Some takes two days to arrive, some needs 3 weeks.

I think i saw a post from a guy in Netherland that received its boards a couple of days ago.
Should not be too long now.

The Moodring is dead in the water ATM. Which is to say, the design is actually pretty near done, but it's on the backburner. Actually, it's been on one of my proto rigs for three months now. I will get back to it, but not until december or jan.
Can you give any hints as to what to expect with this.  A shimmer switch would be AMAZING!

Got my Dirtbag yesterday and the new roadrage as well.  Both are great, Dirtbag is amazing actually.  If there could be a Roadrage-lite layout soley for powering positive ground effects that would be very cool.

Any suggestions on a favorite variant? I'm leaning toward the basic triangle since it seems the smoothest - more fuzz than buzz.

My favorite is Violet Rams Head..if you add the mids knob you can get a really smooth sound even on the treble turn of the tone knob.

Woe unto my neighbor.
I just had to crank some obnoxiously loud 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' after taking your advice.
The Rams Head sounds perfect.

You know, Brian is not to blame for any slow local mail services! I waited some time for my first boards as well, but they arrived, with the same hand-written "thx" as mentioned before. We should be grateful for a guy putting this much effort in keeping his customers happy! BTW: did you see his posts on the recall for Honeydripper boards? He IS FOR REAL!! No big company is gonna do a thing like that! All the best to you for 2012 Brian, keep it up!!

i don't understand why you are saying me that. i know Brian is a cool guy, i was just sharing with everybody my disappointment with italian postal service, and i was adding my beef with the local mailman as a funny fact. D'you got i was blaming B. for a mailman-meathead?
whatever, i'm grateful to B. i hope he continues his business for a lot of years.
cool.

No worries, pietro, I understood exactly what you meant. Overseas shipping is frustrating because it is really unpredictable in terms of transit time. Some are as little as a week and some a month. I had one this year that was almost two months....but I think was was because of an earthquake.

Fortunately, shipping them out is actually a breeze. I use Endicia for international stuff and it is very convenient. Long gone are the days where I would fill out customs forms by hand...I must have done around 1000 of those before I started doing it online!

Sorry if i was misunderstood, don't mean to offend anyone! BTW: I worked for the dutch mail company for almost 8 years, so i know what happens with everything that gets sent around. I'm actually amazed that most of it gets on it's destination on time and in one piece, the things i've seen.......

Again apologies, and happy new year everyone!
