Build Reports / Re: Double Dragon (a tale of woe...)

Nice!! That is feckin cool yo  8)  How does it work, any problems, bugs etc...? Does it sound good? I have been messin around with this design tryin to get a distinct super hot rodded, fire breathing Marshall "Cameron" type of voicing with it.. It certainly already has the gain... just have to fire up the blow torch and bend it into shape ;D

Nice work as always!

Open Discussion / Re: Bogner Pedals uses transformer

If you look at other Rupert Neve designs it may shed some light on it, his little transformers are in all of them...

Reinhold Bogner is a real nutty ass! :o  I think that's where the tone comes from..

Mods / Re: Uproar: more, tighter gain?

Any ideas? I just want to tame a bit of the "gristle." Make it a bit tighter, a bit more smooth/searing.

What board layout did you use? Schematic? The reason I ask is because the Uproar is or was incorrect. The Riot pedal has since been traced again and corrections were made but, I don't think the MB layouts or schematics were ever corrected?

I posted a link to the corrected schematic in this thread.

It's towards the bottom of this page at the FSB forum..

Unfortunately, my family is moving into a new home in the next few weeks and demo equipment etc is all packed.

Ahhh... The good old "my family is moving into a new home, equipment is packed" excuse... Nicely played but of course you know we don't believe you, right?  ::)  :D

That is very cool! I think the Boss DS-1 is confused and probably feels a little inadequate...

Just to let everybody know a member of FSB forum fully traced and got all the correct values for the Riot, removed caps and measured etc..! Really excellent job with schematic and a lot of great pics!!! Might want to update the Uproar now! :o

General Questions / Re: Why NOT Mammoth?
January 05, 2012, 04:16:16 PM
Yeah, Mammoth does have a lot of good stuff that's for sure and he (Blake) seems like a nice guy! But, for small orders of 3 or 4 items it's hard to beat Thaishine.com! Since they have a minimum order of $10.00 and they pretty much beat Mammoth prices on pots and other common parts like foot switches and like I said before always FREE shipping! I really like the pots that Thaishine carry, they are Alpha 16mm pcb mount with plastic covers so your boards can sit directly on top of them and not short out... They are good for some parts and Mammoth is good for others like polyester film box type capacitors and plain, drilled, and painted boxes etc... You just have to compare prices and the lowest price wins, not sacrificing quality of course! Not knocking Mammoth at all, I think they are great! Very happy with the stuff I got from them!!!  ;)

I usually order from thaishine.com here in the US but I ordered from Mammoth this time and got the stuff in about 4 days, about the same as Thaishine... They sent an order confirmation with tracking number also. I got the stuff and everything looked good except for one thing.. They forgot to include 1 of the items that I paid for. I double checked on my order confirmation and it was there and it was also checked off the packing slip included inside the box? It was just 6 LED bezels and I emailed them and let them know.. Blake replied to my email and said they would get them mailed out to me ASAP... No biggie  :-\ I will still order from them again but it will have to be when I need a lot of stuff since the shipping is very expensive as compared to Thaishine's FREE shipping for everything!

If you live in the states this is a great supplier... $10.00 minimum order though but free shipping on everything and ships in 4 days. I have ordered from them many times and I always get the stuff in 4 days and sometimes 3. They have 27pF and 33pF but don't seem to have any 30's... They look like a spin off from Tayda..?

A different pot will have a larger effect on the gain type than the diodes. Diodes affect the character of the gain, the pot affects the amount.

Jacob
Thanks Jacob! I am using a 100kB pot and I have measured it to make sure it's correct. I will try another one and see if it helps. It has quite a bit of gain just not as much as I would like. I have played the "real" pedal and it has more gain than this one. The last one I made seemed to have more gain also so I am kinda scratchin my head..? I used the same pots as the last build also. As soon as I get this thing right I am gonna box it up and move on to the next build, spending way too much time on this one... Next will be the SEVERE...  I loves the high gain stuff!

General Questions / Re: Uproar Pedal Question...

Ok, I etched another board last night, populated it and hooked it up... I made another one because the first one was all messed up from being reworked so many times. This one works very well but seems to be just a tad bit low in the gain? Anbody know what components directly affect the gain level? I used the 3mm red LED's but changed them to 5mm red because they seem to have more gain. The other diodes seem to have less gain. The four 1n34a's I changed to four 1n914's and that seemed to give a little more gain in that section. I still have the blue.. Are there any caps that directly affect the gain. I have all the mods except for the facemelter... The only other variations I have are as follows:
CP=1uF (I have wired up the Presence mod)
C8=10n
C9=2n2
C10=10n
Other than all of that everything is the same as the Madbean layout.
Thanks ~ Jim

timbo - I saw yours, it looks great!  ;)  I don't have any of those cute little blue 1n914's but I have some standard ones... I might try those? I have the 4580's and pretty much all of the rest of the stuff according to the layout and some variations from what I have read from other people.. I don't know what I did wrong on the first couple but I was getting frustrated ??? Happy now and thanks for the info on the diodes and again great looking build! Thanks to Madbean!!
