I guess one of you geniuses will have to open one up!  :)

Trim downward with a fresh x-acto blade?
Never tried this, so it's just a suggestion.

Open Discussion / Is SMD lowering our standards?
March 01, 2016, 12:43:55 PM
I remember all the discussions about what kind of caps sounded better. How ceramic caps have horrible audio qualities and tantalum caps to. How a good PCB designs will isolate the power or the digital signal from the audio path.

But now, with the influx of SMD boards, all of that seams not to matter any more? Parts just placed any ware as long as they "fit" on the board. Most use all ceramic and tantalum caps.

Were all these discussions in vain? Was is all BS$@#$ or are we just lowering our standards?

Yes friends, It keeps getting sweeter.  ;D
I've started sorting all of this stuff and this is what I found!

BS170 = 104
2N5457 = 30
J201 = 151

And I didn't even look at the IC yet.

Crap! Not new ones again.  >:(
Just kidding, keep them coming.
When I look at my day, I'm amazed that you even have time to do this.
Do you have a wife and kids?

Open Discussion / Got boxes full of goodies today

One guy on the DIYStompbox wall getting out of effects building end was selling it all.
The catch, He was in Edmonton and wanted local pickup only.
I'm in Québec......that's far from Edmonton. But I have friends in those parts so they picked it up for me and sent it over.
So 60$ for the deal and about 50$ to ship.

This is what I got .....

Bag of SMD stuff

A couple of bags of  different germaniums

And so much amp stuff I had to leave it on the floor (transformers, touret boards, yellow caps, orange caps, tube sockets, etc)

Now I have to sort all this out.......might put a delay in my plans to test the Etcher's Paradise projects. But at the rate Droogie is going...who needs me?

OK got to go back to the pile now.

I'm glad to see that others are also verifying projects.
So I won't have to verify them all after all.

Putting the ones already verified aside and concentrating on the others.

Got a workout bench and powerblocks last weekend, so this week was "make space for this new stuff someware"

Did have time to build a bit. Waiting on parts.

What are you using? With the right tools......it takes the time it takes......but it's not that bad.

I use the Dremel drill press, along with a Dirt Devil Scorpion hand vac to suck up the toxic dust. I'm nearly blind in my left eye so it's a real PITA for me to look at all those tiny dots. Eventually I will probably try to figure out a way to mount the magnifying glass from my third hand tool onto the Dremel drill press... Or just buy a new left eye.  ;)

I'm getting older and I couldn't do electronics if I didn't have these.

Drilling, soldering, reading inscriptions and parts.......love them!

Aquarium pump! Nifty, never occurred to me.
I have air blowing but from my big air compressor. Drill my boards with ear plugs because of the compressor's noise (and can't do it when kids are sleeping) But this air pump trick is great.

Also - the PNP Photoshop file contains just the silk screen side of the boards (as a layer) since this was requested.

Thanks a lot for that :)

There is enought etchers here to make you one. Just ask and make an arrangement.
I need to etch more boards (now that Brian added some projects) I could whip one up for you. (If you're not in a big rush.)

No I'm not on drugs, and I know this is an unreasenoble demand.

I for sure don't want to sound ungratfull for all the tromendus work Brian is putting into this.

But having access to the eagle files would allow us to do what ever modifications, layer extractions we wanted without asking Brian all the time.

That's good news.
Glad others are also verifying these great projects.
