On the Mangler PCB, can I use a 1N5819 in place of the 1N5817?

Yes. The 5819 is always interchangeable for the 5817 (the reverse is not true). The difference is their reverse breakdown voltage.

Jon, careful - he asked about replacing a 5817, not 5719. I'm having some trouble finding a datasheet for the 5719, so your advice may still be fine, but you may want to clarify if that was just a typo.

Re: the 5819 over the 5818...

The local electronics store by my house has the 5819 in stock, but not the other 2.

It's all sorted though, I ended up finding a spare 5818 at home!

Typos. I meant that the 5819 can always replace the 5817.
