Build Reports / Vaguely Russian Themed Firebomb
December 10, 2011, 03:29:36 AM
I finally got around to building the firebomb I bought last year.  Dead simple build.  Works like a champ.

General Questions / Dinky Drive
October 24, 2011, 02:59:04 PM
Has anyone out there built the Dinky Drive when it was available?  Or recently, with Haberdasher's PCB service?  I am wondering what people thought of it.  The Rump Roast sounds so good, I was thinking the DD might as well.  Thanks

General Questions / Transistor orientation in LaVache
September 26, 2011, 05:17:37 PM
In the build diagram, the transistor is not oriented at 9:00 or 3:00, but kind of 11:30ish.   Is there a reason for that?  Is it yet another gap in my stomp box building intelligence?  Thanks.  I appreciate it.

General Questions / La Vache Transistor
August 29, 2011, 02:53:28 PM
Hello.  I am having trouble getting the 2n3565 for the La Vache.  How horrible would it be to use a 2n5088?  Has anyone subbed the 3565?  And with what results?  I guess I could socket it and see if I can find a 3565 later.  But I was curious if anyone else has tried it.  Thanks

Build Reports / My Zombii
August 08, 2011, 10:39:24 PM
This is my Zombii project paying homage to "Shaun Of The Dead".  I don't have a gut shot yet because somewhere between the rocking of it and the boxing of it, I lost the LED and the DRIVE pot doesn't seem to do anything.   But it's loud and nasty and I don't know what I'll do with it, but it's fun to wail away with.

Hello.  I was wondering about the diode switch idea mentioned in the build doc.  I get the concept but I was wondering how - physically- you accomplish that.  In other words, how do you wire up a switch to choose between two pairs of diodes?  Thanks in advance

Build Reports / Neutrino
May 31, 2011, 02:08:25 PM
Here is my new neutrino.  It sounds great.  It's a little hummy (especially with single coils) but it's cool.  The white knob was not intentional.  The 3rd black one I got from Mammoth had a stripped set screw so I grabbed the only one I had laying around.  Thanks again to Brian for the great board and all the forum members for answering the endless questions.

General Questions / Project Complexity
April 29, 2011, 10:51:56 PM
I was wondering what determined a "Cowboy" project versus a "Noob" one.  Is there a part amount threshold that gets breached or is it a judgement call based on how it's set up?  Or something else?  And what is that NOOB graphic?  I can't stop looking at it.

Thanks

Tech Help - Projects Page / T Bagger no distortion
March 30, 2011, 09:00:24 PM
What does it mean when you turn a distortion on and you get the dry signal?  The volume works and 100% brings it to unity gain, but no effect at all.  I did some initial audio probing without success since the signal is coming through the circuit, just not being "effected" by it.  So I guess my question is how does the unit distort?  Is it the IC or the diode?  And if either or both of those components are dead, can the signal still go through?  Or is it, as I suspect, some other weirdness.  I have burned this unit once already.  Literally, smaoke coming out.  The 4001 diode was toasted and replaced.  Anyway, where would you start looking?

Thanks

Build Reports / Your Moment Of Zen
March 27, 2011, 02:05:28 AM
Hello

Here is my just completed Serendipity (Zen Drive).  It sounds good.  I figure there's some tweaking to do, but so far so good.  The picture has a large glare on it

And here are the guts.  Sorry about the blurry picture.  I can't seem to get it right

Thanks to everyone who answers my seemingly endless questions!

Build Reports / Electronics At Work (Rump Roast)
March 23, 2011, 12:34:14 AM
This is my Rump Roast.  I use it as a dirty boost, mostly.  It's like having a dirty channel on my Blues Jr.  Had a mishap with the graphic, and the labels are a little off - I have that problem with printing from Photoshop -  but I'll re-do it at some point.  Thanks to the 1958 IBM advertising department for the graphic.  Thanks to Brian for another great project.

General Questions / Cherrybomb Question
March 20, 2011, 02:02:10 PM
Is the Cherrybomb a mostly direct clone of a Colorsound Overdriver?  The reason I ask is that I heard one of the ThroBack Overdrive Boost pedals which is also a derivative of the CSOD and it sounded really nice.  Seemed to have a lot of flexibility as far as it's range of cool tones.  I was wondering if anyone knew if the ThroBack was significantly different circuit-wise than the original Colorsound and could those mods be incorporated into a DIY pedal?

Thanks

Tech Help - Projects Page / Smoking T-Bagger

I'm guessing it's a bad thing when smoke comes out of your box when you are testing voltages with a DMM, right?

General Questions / Using different transistors
February 26, 2011, 05:55:14 AM
Just a general question.  If you are building a Big Muff type circuit, as an example, and it calls for 2N5088's, can you mix and match them with something similar like 5089's or do you have to decide on one and make them all the same?

Thanks

General Questions / Rump Roast Treble
February 23, 2011, 09:25:20 PM
I love my new Rump Roast but it's got gobs of high end.  Is there a place I should start messing about with different values?  I am still learning so it would be a lot stabbing in the dark.  But it's a great boost / overdrive (I built the hybrid) excepting the treble bit.  Thanks

Requests / Lovepedal Les Lius
February 22, 2011, 05:19:21 AM
this has probably been asked, but is there any interest in making a Lovepedal Les Lius variant?  I heard one of these last weekend and it sounded incredible.  I understand they are no longer being made.  Anyway.

General Questions / Securing the board
February 21, 2011, 01:19:25 AM
What's the best way to secure a board in the box?  Previously I have been using solid core wire so as to "suspend" it in the box.  Is there a better way?

Thanks

Tech Help - Projects Page / Rump Roast Problem
February 21, 2011, 01:16:07 AM
Hello.

I just finished my Rump Roast and I am having a problem.  I built it as a hybrid and the boost seems to work fine.  But when you flick the toggle for the OD, I get no signal at all.  I am guessing that the volume will have no effect in any other mode than the OD, so I don't know if that's working.  I made no substitutions and I built it according to the plans.  I double checked my wiring and solder joints.  I redid some of the joints that looked questionable.  Still nothing.  The transistors are biased correctly so I know the signal goes to them and the bypass signal is not affected.

Any ideas where I should start looking?

Thanks

Build Reports / My First Madbean Project
February 17, 2011, 01:55:57 PM
Here is my my first madbean (3rd overall) project.  It's a Slambox.  I can't believe how good it sounds.  At low levels, it takes my Blues Jr's natural boxiness away and it's beautiful.  It's crazy loud though.  I don't think I can crank it to the top without damaging my little amp.  But at 12 o'clock, it produces a nice chunky snarl with my old P90's that I love.   It also sports the groovy rainbow LED that was given to me by forum member eniacmike.  Thanks for creating this project.

General Questions / Question about the Zygote
February 08, 2011, 01:00:25 AM
Is the STRAIN control in any way similar to the "Easy Face" Pre Gain?  I built the GGG Silicon FF and I love the way it sounds with the guitar volume turned down.  And I heard that the Easy Face Pre Gain had that same effect.
