Title: Upcoming Releases - give your input!
Post by: madbean on January 08, 2012, 01:46:06 AM
Here's what I plan on doing for sure in Feb.

Kingslayer (awaiting last prototype, mostly done)
Stage Fright (awaiting last prototype, mostly done)
Collosalus - verified :)

Here's a list of other projects that could be released (these are more or less done with a little more work):

Boneyard
Cherrybomb
Deadpool
DeadRinger
PigButt - IC Muff w/ tone bypass
RumpRoast - sub-mini tube
Harbinger - Univibe
Mudbunny with PCB mounted pots
Nautilus - Mutron iii --- long shot, but possible
FishFace  - (filter, sample and hold) - long shot, but possible

So, of the second list, what are people interested in? And, what else (that I have previously mentioned but not listed) are people wanting the most right now? Keep in mind, I will be limited to three, maybe four other projects beyond the three "for sure" ones. Most likely I will need to re-order something by Feb. so we'll see what funds I have available to do all of this.

Please give your feedback since this is an opportunity to decide what's available in February!

Rump Roast definitely. Always wanted a Mutron III too.

I'd like to see the Rump Roast project and also the weener wah..or is that planned a little later?

Of the secondary projects, the ones i'd like to see would be the two big muffs, if I had to pick one it'd be the OpAmp though.

Then would be the Mutron III from the maybe pile and the Univibe.

The Weener Wah is already on "pre-order" for this month. I haven't uploaded the docs yet.

The Fish Face sounds interesting. Am I right to guess that it's similar to the Maestro FSH-1?

Otherwise probably the Harbinger or the Rump Roast

My vote goes for the Rump Roast, and the UniVibe.

Damn, I didn't even notice.  I'm pre-ordering one for sure.

From the second list, I'm into the univibe the most, especially if there will be a standard enclosure model (I only have one wah shell right now and it's reserved for the wah project).  The Mutron would also rule, but I know it's a long shot.

My vote goes to Kingslayer, Rumproast, and Boneyard

I really like the idea of the Fish Face, but that's probably a really complicated project and I've got enough on my plate already

Definitely the Nautilus.  and the Fish face sounds cool.  even though those are the two that have long shot listed after them.  ;D  Also the harbinger.  Definitely the harbinger.

1. Harbinger - Univibe

I know they aren't on the list but I'd like to see fabbed boards for the Quadrovibe and the Tilt.

From the list I'd like to see:
Harbinger - Univibe
Nautilus - Mutron iii
FishFace  - (filter, sample and hold)

Sorry man! Gotta try for what I want too and that is a mod that can be added easily without pads for the pot.

Tone Bypass switch is cool though.

My top three:
1) Harbinger
2) PigButt
3) Nautilus
I'd also be interested in Rump-Roast and Deadringer, depending on how much money I have to spare in February. And the three confirmed projects sound cool as well. Basically I'm very excited by all of this.  :)

I'll for sure be getting the Kingslayer and Stage Fright, the PigButt, Nautilus and FishFace would be my top 3 options from the second list.

edit: Also, I've seen handy 3pdt pcbs elsewhere for cleaner/easier wiring, something like that would be rad too.

Will be ordering all the first three definites, so dont need to endorse those further.
On a flanger mission after doing the Current Lover :)
Love phasers, so really up for your take on it, and seeing as I got into this game too late for a sunking, im holding out for this Kingslayer rather than etching a sunking for now.

Of the possibles, I wanna be frank and say the Big Muffs, overdriver and fuzz wouldnt really interest me too much - got too many options for these, and Id rather see some modulation or other hard to do by vero projects.

The RumpRoast might be interesting depending on parts ease of sourcing.

So, I would vote for (and order if available)

DeadRinger - cos I always thought id like to see what the fuss was about
Harbinger - Univibe...nuff said really.
Fish Face - cos it sounds really intriguing
Title: Re: February Releases - give your input!
Post by: GermanCdn on January 11, 2012, 01:25:37 PM
Will order the top three for sure, my votes for the other three would be

Deadringer (I don't need another dirtbox, but when has need ever factored into the equation)
Harbinger (Haven't built a vibe yet)
Rump Roast (Can never have enough boosters)

I too wouldn't mind seeing the mysterious reverb project everyone seems to mention, my DIY board (which is rapidly becoming my number 1 board) is a little naked without it.

There's also the possibility of another delay. I've been working on it for a few days and it sounds pretty damn awesome. It's PT2399 based but it's got some features that no other design has, AFAIK. I started it last year but decided to go ground up on it this week. Biggest feature is the ability to select three different "model" types, analog, tape and one other that I have yet to name. Lastly, I'm trying to work out a faux "tape warble" on the repeats (not modulation exactly, but true up and down pitch bends).

Anyway, just another one to put on the burner.

This sounds great!  I've been tinkering with one with multiple pt2399's in the spirit of the RE201.  Still a long way to go, not enough time  :)

And this is the "JR" version which will have a subset of the DX version and go in a 1590B. This one will require 1/8W resistors, monolithic and tantalum caps, but they are common values.

Title: Re: February Releases - give your input!
Post by: madbean on January 20, 2012, 06:06:06 AM
And lastly the "DD" version which has dual delay but no modulation.

Gee, are three versions too many?

Title: Re: February Releases - give your input!
Post by: djaaz on January 20, 2012, 07:53:35 AM
DX, DX Jr, DD.
if i get it right:
DX  is dual,delay with modulation.
Jr is delay with modulation
DD is double delay with no modulation.

The switch triggers 3 mods on the first?
Title: Re: February Releases - give your input!
Post by: madbean on January 20, 2012, 08:20:06 AM
The rotary switch chooses between 4 different repeat modes. The DD also has tails or true bypass operation. The JR and DD versions have only the "tape" mode for repeats.

Clear!

Looks fun.

So that's more DX, DD junior & DD.

DD would be some kind of doubled delay echo base workalike?

This would completely resolve my need for an Echo Base which I've wanted so long. You wrote DD twice, is it DX that's gonna have the tails option? I've been wanting an ultimate delay for awhile now!

No, it's two PT's in series. The maximum delay will be limited to about 700ms or so but that can be altered if you want the full 1sec.

Gee, are three versions too many?
It is quite a few! If I was gunna drop one it'd be the DD.

But the DX Sounds cool!

Is the Deluxe Aqua Boy still gunna be on the cards with these?

Yeah, the Aquaboy is still happening. I am going to spend a little extra time on it so most likely it will come in the March batch.

I'm going to re-release it with a new layout. The new design will be a 1590BB and be a much easier build...no standing resistors. It will still have the BBD jumpers for using different chips. The idea being that it will be the "simple" analog delay, and the Deluxe will have the larger feature set (2x delay, on-board modulation, tails). There will also be an add-on modulation PCB that will fit in easily with the new AB design similar to the older add-on boards. It's called the "AquaBaby" heh heh.

This is great. Probably a bit late but I would be voting for the Aquaboy if it was a candidate for next batch of releases.  I have a MN3005 on standby for it already.  Collosalous second.

Post by: madbean on March 17, 2012, 03:12:22 AM
Hey guys- I'm finalizing the latest batch now. There will be something for everyone, but not as much as I hoped. By that, I mean the number of new projects and re-orders needed now far exceeds my ability to fund them in one fell swoop (probably around 20 total). I know people are anxious so I'm doing my best to push as much out there as possible.

Couple things to keep in mind- 1) Each batch of projects I release is generally a couple thousand dollars of investment  (sometimes more). Obviously, that's the 'cost of business' but sometimes it's hard to do that kind of thing on a monthly schedule. I think in the next few months I actually will be able to maintain a 4-6 week schedule, though 2) Even though not everything I want to get out now will get out (right now), I think there's a strong possibility of a second release much sooner to take care of the leftovers. IOW, not as long of a wait as it has been from the last batch. 3) Not to brag (well, too much) but also keep in mind that no one else out there manages to compete, or even come close, to the number of releases that MBP does......   :) Maybe that's a gloat...nevermind!

Please stay tuned for an announcement here in a day or so. Thanks to all for their contribution in this thread. I will keep providing the opportunity in the future, of course.

Yes, it will be coming soon. I will be changing things up for the next few months so I plan on releasing less projects at once, but more frequently--hopefully 2 or 3 new ones per month plus whatever needs to be re-stocked. So, I expect the Stage Fright will be one of the next.

Hello everyone,

this is my first post.
Been lurking here for a while, have never posted. Am fairly new to this hobby, have built a handful of pedals so far, they all work but nothing special. This is a great place to learn.
Will place a large order with Madbean once the restock is in, hope everything else will still be available then.
And I'm sure I will post more when building more.

Beans,

I was about to start sourcing parts for a loophole looper, but I just noticed the loophole looper II on the main projects page as an "upcoming" project... is that one getting close?

I already have a line-6 jm4 looper, but its the only pedal not made by me on my board.... and I don't really need all that fancy modeling in my looper.

Just trying to decide if I should wait... and what are the specs on the loophole II?
Title: Re: Upcoming Releases - give your input!
Post by: madbean on October 16, 2012, 06:48:51 PM
It's not close at all. I have yet to do any work on it...sorry. I definitely will do it, but maybe not before the end of the year.
Title: Re: Upcoming Releases - give your input!
Post by: aballen on October 17, 2012, 04:28:17 PM
Do you intend to use the same chip for the loophole II or possibly go with the ISD1600B ?  though I cant figure out where to buy it, it looks like you can get 40 seconds at 8 bit in a through hole package.

Another thought would be to get one of the high fidelity chips, and use something like an arduino mini or a mega 328 to control it.

Sigh, still waiting on that loophole... and I'm really in need of a good reverb too.  You know I was thinking it could be based on the cave dweller as it does do a great cavey reverb at certain settings and then I just found your post about basing on the same thing.

I definitely want a cavernous chorus.  Any reason you did not want to go with the new brick?
