Title: All-in-one drill template
Post by: slacker775 on March 29, 2016, 10:52:44 PM
Anyone have a drill template for the All-in-one?  I'd really like to get mine boxed up in the fairly near future and my history of measuring/eyeballing for enclosures isn't good.  Using a template, I do pretty well.

Just on the wild chance that someone has one or two of these available for sale I'm interested in purchasing them. Let me know!

I'd prefer blank over populated, but am open to options.

Thanks,

Andy

Title: Older Moodring build docs
Post by: p_wats on February 13, 2018, 06:03:10 AM
Picked up what appears to be an older version of the Moodring pcb, but can't find the build doc for anything but the 2017 version.

Anyone holding the older doc?

Also any must-do mods?

Thanks!

I subbed j201s for the Transistors. Just wondering what the optimum specs are for VPN and issue for Q1 and Q2?

I know, that arranging components symmetrically doesn't always make sense electrically, but this thing looks sweet!

Title: Issue w the Multiplex Jr Modulation
Post by: neil463 on March 19, 2018, 12:17:26 AM
Accidentally posted this in the wrong area so apologies for the duplicate post.

Have the 1776 Multiplex Jr board.  Delay is working fine, and I hear a slight modulation when it's engaged.   I made one only one modification - I added a DPDT footswitch along w/ the SPDT so that you can turn the modulation on or off with the regular switch or foot switch.  I removed the modification and still experienced the issue.

This is the documentation from 1776: http://1776effects.com/wp-cont...s/2015/03/Multiplex-Jr-BOM.pdf

Here are the voltage readings I've taken (IC# taken from the above doc)

IC1
1 4.24
2. 4.24
3. 4.25
4. 30-40 mV (fluctuating)
5. 4.27
6. 4.27
7. 4.25
8. 8.48

IC2 - This IC had fluctuating values.  The notation I'm using below indicates fluctuating between value although the numbers aren't exact. The fluctuation generally isn't slow, it's like it's bumping around ~1 or 2 v at a time
1. 5.24/3.5 V
2. 5 / 4
3. 4 / 3
4. 48 mV
5. 5.3 /3.3
6. 5 / 4
7. 8.5 / 0
8. 8.5

IC3
1. 2.55
2. 2.55
3. 2.55
4. 2.55
5. 2.55
6. 2.55
7. 2.55
8. 2.55
9. 5.06
10. 2.55
11. 22.2 mV
12. 22.2 mV
13. 2.93
14. 2.54
15. .675 V
16. .711 V

Reg
5.06 V
22.2 mV
8.5 V

Hi guys,
Got my first gig with The Dead Set this friday evening. If any Sydney-siders are keen to get to Leichhardt,  we're playing at the Bald Faced Stag.
I'll have my triple wreck clone & lpb1 hooked up, providing some buzz.
Cheers,  Pete

Lots of planning to get this in there and working. 1/8 watt resistors and low profile electros made it possible(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180404/382852a6b6e05085f82ad5eaf90260bc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180404/42ea646655e29cf9990a1e758f2cfa1c.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180404/3b5f47f8a7d01349df55d21894bfe839.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180404/50e2db2e1e7f3f74a45218e3da137123.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180404/d0b715c5b082aebe7e4a7adaf3e7e659.jpg)

Title: Multiplex and mod no sound
Post by: chongmagic on May 31, 2018, 01:51:55 AM
I am building the multiplex and mod and eventually adding the run a dub reverb. I figured I would test the multiplex and mod first before I added the second effect. I used the 1776 3pdt board and connected up the power and I/O jacks. I get all the LEDs the light up on the 3pdt board , the modulation LED changes rate, and the speed switch LED lights up very dimly. Bypass works but I get nothing when the effect should be on. Could one of the pt2399 chips be bad? I don't have it boxed up really could it be a grounding issue?

Title: KoT SMD
Post by: stevie1556 on June 02, 2018, 12:12:24 PM
Hi guys, I'm currently building up a couple of KoT boards that I got from Rullywow, and while waiting for parts to arrive I've decided to try doing a SMD layout with board mounted 9mm pots. So far the design is going well, one side is nearly done, and with only a few vias! Not happy with the layout on the other side even though is a a direct mirror of side one, gonna play around with it during the week though. Hoping to have the layout done sometime next week and the boards sent off for production.

The only time I've done a two footswitch effect it was a massive fail, so I was wondering would anyone would like to help me by testing the boards? I can supply all the SMD components with them (0805 size), so you'll just need the TH components, pots, jacks, foot switches, etc. Only thing is that I can't guarantee that they are going to work.

I should have 3-5 boards should anyone want to test one out. The picture below is the board that I'm currently designing and tweaking it as I go.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180602/83c780f23f295fc05c6f07857d34cb66.jpg)

Title: Little plastic bags
Post by: stevie1556 on June 19, 2018, 07:27:50 PM
Hey guys, there is a few campaigns around recently to reduce plastic waste, recycle as much as we can etc. My company is making a lot of changes because of it.

But it's got me thinking a lot about waste, and from building up some pedals I've got loads of those little plastic bags that the components arrive in. It seems just pointless to throw them in a bin that goes to landfill, so I was wondering if anyone has any creative uses for them or anything?

Title: Muffin Big Muff
Post by: stevie1556 on June 22, 2018, 12:48:47 AM
I'm finally going to be trying a Big Muff!!!!!

I've never been into fuzz, my one and only attempt with it was a DAM Meathead, but it was just too much. On a few Facebook groups I keep seeing posts about the Big Muff, so I've decided to try some out. Ordered a few of the 1590A boards, and as I'm currently waiting on some other boards to arrive from Seeed, along with a few components to finish up some other builds, and some silk screening screens (a few mishaps with artwork files has meant delays), I thought I'd try doing a SMD layout. Laid out the components pretty well, and laziness made me try the auto route function on Eagle. Pretty pleased with how it routed it, although I think I could have done a slightly neater job with using hidden vias, but then the traces are hidden anyway so it will look ok.

Which ones do people recommend? I'm looking at building maybe 3 different ones on Madbeans boards. I keep hearing good things about the Green Russian. My main music taste is Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Steel Panther, etc.

Here is a layout of the board for the Muffin in SMD.....(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180622/6e7a017177f0f9143593f6538dd5fdba.jpg)

Post by: stevie1556 on June 28, 2018, 10:32:11 AM
Who would like to win a board plus components?

One of my friends has asked me repair one of his rare pedals as he doesn't use it and is thinking of selling it. I decided to try to design a board for it as I like it, but I can't justify the price that they go for.

I've just sent off for a board to be made, whoever guesses what the board is for (and providing that the layout works when I test it) can have one shipped along with all the board components.

Just seen that Bean is having a blowout sale on these. If you haven't got one and use a small amp (I've got a Blackstar HT5), they sound absolutely amazing! Definitely one of the best pedals that I've ever built.

Title: Hammond custom enclosure service
Post by: stevie1556 on July 25, 2018, 02:15:15 PM
Has anyone used this service before? Here is my experience so far.....

One of the companies I order from uses the (I think new) Hammond customisation service. As I've always struggled to drill a couple of holes perfectly I thought I'd give it a try.

The issue I found was that there is a £105 setup charge which is for one design only. I decided the best way of doing it was to just have the input and output jack holes and the power jack hole drilled, and then drill the holes for the pots etc for the enclosures, but in hindsight I should have had the foot switch and LED hole drilled as well. I've had a few silk screens made where I've got drill location markers for the pots (if I had designs of 1, 2 and 3 pot enclosures then they would incur 3 setup fees).

They sent me a test enclosure, and the hole for the power jack was drilled on the wrong side, they corrected it straight away and sent me the rest of the enclosures. It's taken 10 days since sending the revised technical drawing back, get 100 enclosures drilled and have them arrive in the UK, can't complain with that.

With VAT, the enclosures are £3.57 each, but to enclosures supplied drilled, without the one off setup charge, is £6.12 each so I thought it was worth doing to get the 3 holes perfectly drilled every time. Admittedly I did order 100 so I could get the price break point, this amount will probably last me several years!

I've had a look at several enclosures and they all look good so far. I noticed they do powder coating and silk screening as well, I believe it all comes under 1 setup charge for each design though.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180725/b106176f4d296905c4737897c71c0120.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180725/5dde3ed5dbefb25e4d0ccefc0608358d.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180725/6293fb6713c599636757e67b377019b5.jpg)

The snark doodle, red llama, and all such similar call for the CD4049UB, but use only two of the gain stages. It's always seemed strange to me that the other four are just wasted. Is there something special about the Hex CMOS buffer? Couldn't you get similar results by slamming the output of one TL072 stage into the input of another? Please school me.

Title: Build problem
Post by: jamesglynn314 on October 02, 2018, 09:55:27 PM
I just finished a byoc Leeds fuzz and it doesn't work, there is a loose wire on one of the Jack's and if I jiggle it while plugged in the battery light comes on but still no sound when running through an amp, I think it could be one of 2 problems, the instructions said to attach the pots, led and switch to the pcb board and put it inside the pedal and screw the nuts on .... Next was to attach the Jack's ... So after it said to tighten the nuts on the pots I just attached it says to take the pcb out to attach the wires for the Jack's then the switch .... I watched a YouTube video of a build and it looks like the guy kept the pcb in and just put the wires down into their holes on the back and soldered them in so i did that for the Jack's and switch..... Another possible problem would be with the switch it gave a wiring schematic of how all the wires go and I did that correctly but there was no indication of which side of the switch was up or down so I picked the side of the switch with the groove to be down, so I think one of these may be the problem or I just dont know how to solder wires, I stuck them thru bent it a little and soldered them in place, any help would be appreciated(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181002/f03c8ce7a262de637995a15561fc0e61.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181002/c8cb95ba9dc5f6115beb305d177e432f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181002/08dbc64ff7e9da03420bd97e036f8bff.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181002/d283a101d5c1a371d4e0c37c058ee4e5.jpg)

Title: Build problem
Post by: jamesglynn314 on October 02, 2018, 09:56:14 PM
I just finished a byoc Leeds fuzz and it doesn't work, there is a loose wire on one of the Jack's and if I jiggle it while plugged in the battery light comes on but still no sound when running through an amp, I think it could be one of 2 problems, the instructions said to attach the pots, led and switch to the pcb board and put it inside the pedal and screw the nuts on .... Next was to attach the Jack's ... So after it said to tighten the nuts on the pots I just attached it says to take the pcb out to attach the wires for the Jack's then the switch .... Title: Triplet capacitor question.
Post by: chongmagic on October 08, 2018, 05:37:59 PM
Can I use a 22p 50v ceramic instead of the 22p MLCC in the triplet build? Also is the PWR on the silkscreen for the 4.7 uf MLCCs?

Title: Triplet question
Post by: chongmagic on October 13, 2018, 05:58:58 PM
I finished up the Triplet, the voltages are about the same as in the build docs. However, when I turn up the octave pot it sounds like a fuzz pedal. I am not sure where I should check to see first. Also the compressor know when turned all the way up just basically mutes the sound.

Has anyone else come across this?

Title: FV-1 questions.....
Post by: stevie1556 on October 27, 2018, 12:37:14 AM
I've got loads of questions and curiosity about these types of pedals but I can't seem to find too much on Google about it. A few questions really spring to mind with them though.

For instance, I've seen pedals that can have x amount of delay modes on them. Let's say for instance it's got 3 modes on it that can be changed on a 3 way toggle switch. From what I've found, the chips already come loaded with 3 different delay types but you can put your own ones onto them as well..... How do you know that your own ones will work with the given circuit or is it all done by the chip on its own with just the pots changing the parameters? And are your own patches for the chips easy to create?

If you have a designed board for a delay circuit with say 3 controls, would all chip patches with 3 controls work well on it?

Are FV-1 pedals worth it due to the higher costs of the build (chip, crystal, etc).

Title: Nom Nom Cap Values
Post by: Aleph Null on October 29, 2018, 04:20:51 PM
I see Brian has suggested changing the cap values in the phase section of the Nom Nom for a vibe-ish sound. Has anyone played with the values here? What values did you settle on?

I'm considering two switches: one to change the C3 and C4, and another to change C5 and C6.

I ordered a Pickit 2 to mess around with FV-1 programming. However, I can't seem to set it up on Windows 10 it will never detect the device. Has anyone setup their Pickit 2 on Windows 10?

Post by: Aleph Null on November 23, 2018, 03:51:48 PM
The BOM calls for a VTL5C3, but I have Tayda photoresistors on hand. Light resistance is 5k which seems to be about right. If I use them with a 5mm red LED in this circuit, will I regret it?

I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this. Did you have to change any resistor values to get good results?

Title: Pedal Development
Post by: hpdonat on December 12, 2018, 12:16:53 AM
Recently I was sequestered to develop a few pedals for some local musicians. One idea I've come up with is an all in one boost/comp/OD (with variable clipping distortion/eq. Just hoping someone might have some ideas about what circuits I might consider based on how they meld, and also any insight on order.  Off the top of my head I'm considering a klon or alembic type boost, a dynacomp compressor, and a Tube screamer OD with various clipping stages, and a 5 band eq. Any insight would be appreciated.

Title: New circuit board day!
Post by: stevie1556 on February 13, 2019, 06:41:46 PM
I ordered 2 Alpha Dog boards absolutely ages ago but never got round to building them up due to struggling to label the enclosures. I've got a few friends interested in VFE pedals, and with being able to do the labels now (when I've ironed out a few kinks), so I thought I'd order to more boards. Got another 3x Alpha Dog, 5x Distortion3 and 5x Merman.

I used the part guide from the build doc on the switching boards, but for some reason I've deleted all the resistors off of it apart from the 1K ones. Hoping I've got all the resistors in my parts boxes!

Should keep me busy for a while :)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190213/50a2fa281a5a5edc9916738ec52ba343.jpg)

Title: Convert a latching into a momentary switch
Post by: Marshall Arts on April 21, 2019, 05:58:51 AM
Does somebody know a simple circuit, that briefly switches on/off every time a latching switch is switched on or off on the input side?

I have an effect that switches on and off with an external momentary switch that I would like to trigger with a latching switch...

I could build something with a microprocessor, but maybe there is something Schmidt trigger based or so...

Post by: Rustez on May 11, 2019, 11:03:47 PM
I'm building a Current Lover and am testing it after soldering everything. The volume level drops pretty severely when engaged. I have the volume trim is maxed. I am getting a very pleasant sounding effect out of it if I turn up the amp. When I biased the other trims I cannot get it to click or get noisy even at the most extreme settings and the feedback controles make very subtle changes to the sound. I checked the voltages and the ones that are off are pin 7 at IC5 =0, and pin 12=0 and pin 13=9 at IC 4. Im teally strugeling to find wich components are associated with those pins. (Im still learning) any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I checked the voltages and the ones that are off are pin 7 at IC5 =0, and pin 12=0 and pin 13=9 at IC 4. Im teally strugeling to find wich components are associated with those pins. (Im still learning) any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190511/1692e244f9e651cc9661c42d7db0f9c2.jpg)

The Mudbunny Civil War circuit calls for 430p caps, but my usual suppliers don't carry that, can I substitute them with another value?

Title: Harbinger 2 mods
Post by: brejna on June 05, 2019, 09:04:55 PM
Hi guys, I just finished harbinger 2 and I want to share few mods I did:

1. Reversed pin 1 and 3 of the speed pot, so faster is toe down
2. Used vtl5c3/2 instead two nsl32
3. Modded vintage input for megavibe, leave r2 empty and put 100k in the position of r1.
4. Changed speed range so I can get faster speeds and also play slower too. You need to change r52 to 470R and put jumper on r54 instead 27k.

Cheers

I'm thinking about getting a Mooer Drum Machine for my acoustic setup, and I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with it.

Also, does anyone have any pictures of the guts of the pedal? Kinda wondering if I could rehouse it into my acoustic multi pedal.

Title: Mimik 15nf question
Post by: mcallisterra on August 15, 2019, 04:23:07 PM
A recently got a friend of mine into building, and he purchased a Woodstork and Mimik to get started with. Somehow we missed out the 15n caps for the Mimik on the parts order, but I have a handful of 10n caps; would these work for C5, C12, and C15 in the Mimik, or does he need to put in a new order for the 15n caps?

Thanks!

Title: Bad Head (Doombutter)
Post by: mcallisterra on August 16, 2019, 06:01:32 PM
I built a Doombutter (Mid-Fi Clarinot) a few years back but didn't really put any effort into the enclosure. I found it tough remembering what the controls did without labels so I sold it and decided to build another with an etched enclosure this time. Both times I used Haberdasher's awesome etch of the Doombutter (thanks Keefe!).

I went with a worn-out looking etch to match the vibe of the circuit.

Such a fun circuit, and very musical and usable at the less-than-crazy settings!

This was my first pedal build. Luckily, a friend has many builds under his belt and helped me out a bunch.  We decided to put this in a 125B enclosure, to make the final assembly easier. Built per the plans, this pedal rips!
When buying parts, I had to settle for the lower tolerance (cheap) resistors. It immediately was dubbed "El Cheapo" and then quickly took on a Three Amigos theme. Etching went well enough for my first time, and resulted in a good worn look, perfect for El Cheapo.

Title: Multiplex Single Repeat or Oscillation
Post by: CurlyMo on October 22, 2019, 01:16:07 PM
Hello,

Finished wiring up my Multiplex with Mod board and found that I get only one echo repeat across the entire sweep of the repeat knob until it goes instantly into full modulation at the very end of the range.

I do get a different delay sound between each mode (delay 1 and 2 on RE201 and Binson mode, just the one delay on Echoplex), pretty sure I'm getting the full delay time sweep on both delay knobs, mix control works, and the modulation works fine.

Been a while since I've built a pedal.  My wife has a secret santa thing at work and the person she picked is a younger kidsl and a death metal band, so....

She said hey, gotta do this on the cheap, but I know you have a stockpile of parts and it's been a while since you built anything.  How about it?

So he is getting a boss-hm2.

Thing is mammoth is gone and PPP seems  to only accept orders in quantitys of 25+. Where are you guys getting painted enclosures these days?  Specifically I'm looking for a 125B black hammertone or black vein finish. Any good sources left?

Been a while since I've built a pedal.  My wife has a secret santa thing at work and the person she picked is a younger kidsl and a death metal band, so....

She said hey, gotta do this on the cheap, but I know you have a stockpile of parts and it's been a while since you built anything.  How about it?

So he is getting a boss-hm2.

Thing is mammoth is gone and PPP seems  to only accept orders in quantitys of 25+. Where are you guys getting painted enclosures these days?  Specifically I'm looking for a 125B black hammertone or black vein finish. Any good sources left?

Title: Choral Reef boo boo

So I didn't reach the switching schematic correctly and put the C6 cap into the C5 spot. The pedal works and all the voltages are within spec of the build guide. I used the soldered in jacks with the switching board so removing C5 is going to be a pain at this point. My question is as the pedal works as is, is it bad to leave it as is or should I remove C5? And can I just put in C6 as per the build guide with leaving C5 in place since there is no charge pump in this build?

Build pics for reference.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191208/167a6ee67251e35cd7a4cddec2505838.jpg)

I dont ever try to use OEM graphics for pedals or clones but I made the exception for these. Plus I never intend on getting rid of them. I love them both, the chorus is my favorite so far.

I have since corrected the 47uf cap on the Choral Reef switching board.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191217/323822ab16bc50261d8983d5fe66c53a.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191217/a4e81e2e5a36b2b42b1bb47a2f044c35.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191217/7668c393f698619bd58dd5cc9475f4b1.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191217/bf63a60bed1d2ccb07c27ae72c289f24.jpg)

Title: Bloodstone extremely noisy

Hello everyone,

I'm very happy with my build of the bloodstone but it does have one significant issue: if I don't turn the feedback all the way up in phase mode it ommits a lot of white noise and some random pops and crackles. The vibrato mode is even worse. The noise on that mode is quite loud and some of the pops match the guitar signal in volume. I've already set the trimmers as needed and don't quite know where to go from here. Can anybody help, please?
