General Questions / Re: Using different transistors
February 26, 2011, 12:57:11 PM
Okay.  So there's nothing intrinsically wrong with mixing trans and it may yield sonically pleasant results?  Or it could crap, I suppose.  The reason I ask is that I just bought some 5088s and 5089s without a specific project to work on because I got a good price and needed to beef up my order.  Maybe I will build a big muff and I can retire my green russian.

Thanks for the info

General Questions / Using different transistors
February 26, 2011, 05:55:14 AM
Just a general question.  If you are building a Big Muff type circuit, as an example, and it calls for 2N5088's, can you mix and match them with something similar like 5089's or do you have to decide on one and make them all the same?

Thanks

General Questions / Rump Roast Treble
February 23, 2011, 09:25:20 PM
I love my new Rump Roast but it's got gobs of high end.  Is there a place I should start messing about with different values?  I am still learning so it would be a lot stabbing in the dark.  But it's a great boost / overdrive (I built the hybrid) excepting the treble bit.  Thanks

Yes, I did a similar search then looked at "lovepedal" and got more but nothing about the Les Lius so I apolgize for the dupe.  Thanks for the link

Requests / Lovepedal Les Lius
February 22, 2011, 05:19:21 AM
this has probably been asked, but is there any interest in making a Lovepedal Les Lius variant?  I heard one of these last weekend and it sounded incredible.  I understand they are no longer being made.  Anyway.

That's exactly what happened.  I basically test fit the wire for length and probably the insulation was the only thing holding it on.  But sometimes you need someone, even though they can't see it, to say "Did you look here?" and gets you looking at it another way.  Because I know I stared at the thing at least 3 times and missed it all three

bngo.  Thanks.  I boned it.  I literally left the one of the lugs on the volume control unsoldered.  Soldered it and - voila - working pedal.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

General Questions / Securing the board
February 21, 2011, 01:19:25 AM
What's the best way to secure a board in the box?  Previously I have been using solid core wire so as to "suspend" it in the box.  Is there a better way?

Thanks

Tech Help - Projects Page / Rump Roast Problem
February 21, 2011, 01:16:07 AM
Hello.

I just finished my Rump Roast and I am having a problem.  I built it as a hybrid and the boost seems to work fine.  But when you flick the toggle for the OD, I get no signal at all.  I am guessing that the volume will have no effect in any other mode than the OD, so I don't know if that's working.  I made no substitutions and I built it according to the plans.  I double checked my wiring and solder joints.  I redid some of the joints that looked questionable.  Still nothing.  The transistors are biased correctly so I know the signal goes to them and the bypass signal is not affected.

Any ideas where I should start looking?

Thanks

Well, thank you very much.  I have a half finished Rump Roast on my desk and a T-Bagger on the way.

Fine.  You've guilt-ed me into it.  I don't like showing pictures of the insides for the same reason I wouldn't show pictures of me samba dancing in my underwear - it's unsavory.  Anyway, suffice to say that it works while not so pretty as alot of the other builds I have seen pictured here.  You may not want to look directly at it for any length of time.

Build Reports / My First Madbean Project
February 17, 2011, 01:55:57 PM
Here is my my first madbean (3rd overall) project.  It's a Slambox.  I can't believe how good it sounds.  At low levels, it takes my Blues Jr's natural boxiness away and it's beautiful.  It's crazy loud though.  I don't think I can crank it to the top without damaging my little amp.  But at 12 o'clock, it produces a nice chunky snarl with my old P90's that I love.   It also sports the groovy rainbow LED that was given to me by forum member eniacmike.  Thanks for creating this project.

General Questions / Question about the Zygote

Is the STRAIN control in any way similar to the "Easy Face" Pre Gain?  I built the GGG Silicon FF and I love the way it sounds with the guitar volume turned down.  And I heard that the Easy Face Pre Gain had that same effect.
