Title: hohner guitars - any good
Post by: m-Kresol on March 26, 2017, 11:11:49 AM
There's a jazzmaster/tele mashup Hohner guitar for sale locally - for very little money I have to add - and I was wondering if any of you have experience with their electric guitars. This one is a "Reno" modell, which is not produced any longer apparently, they only have acoustic and headless nowaydays.

I was planing on getting a jazzmaster, but this one is very nice optically and I didn't want a trem anyways. Do you think exchanging the pickups for regular jazzmaster PUs would be hard, ie. especially the cavity for the neck PU?

any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Wasn't Prince's telecaster a hohner?

That thing looks very cool. I'd say go for it for the price.

I would replace the bridge pickup with a tele bridge pickup and buy one of those squier j mascis Jazzmasters. Or put in some of the fender wide range hbs. Then it would be like a Lee Ranaldo Jazzblaster.

I arranged a meeting next week to have a look at it and see how it feels. I'll see how it goes from there regarding pickups and so on.

I just read a little more about this thing. Starting to feel a little GAS coming on.

any links you can post? I've found little to nothing about this thing. This can be either a good or a bad thing

I have a 70s Hohner Les Paul copy that I LOVE. I put new tuners and burstbucker pros in it, but only because the stock tuners wore out. I kept all the original stuff. It feels and sounds great.

Just reading up on old hohners in general and rather taken with that design. People seem to dig their guitars.

Honer's are very cool guitars. When I worked at the music store people were always coming in looking for them. Also Yes, Princes Tele was a Honer! What are they asking for it?

@AntKnee That LP is AWESOME!!!

It's only 290€. basically a steal. My brother was making me paranoid to remove the link to the listing in case any austrian or german fellows are reading and snatching it away from me. Now the guitar is reserved for me till next weekend when I drive up to Vienna, so I'm feeling more confident again ;)

Buy it! Looks cool.
It looks newer, though. I can't quite read the label... Is it made in Indonesia? Mine was made in Japan, so I assumed they all were, but they may have used other factories later on.
