Title: Cave Dweller Build
Post by: Stomptown on September 09, 2012, 09:03:36 PM
Hey everyone, here is a Cave Dweller I built last week. This one was a lot of fun to build and it sounds great for a stripped down delay. I really like the slap back delay you can get out of it. A couple things I learned on this build. First make sure to find a small 1mf capacitor as there is not much room for a standard 1mf box cap (I had to bend cap sideways before soldering the leads). I also used an ink jet waterslide decal for the first time (I purchased decal from mammoth electronics) and from my experience the decals made for laser printer are way better, as is the quality of print from a laser printer. I won't be using those decals again. Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think...

Very nice!  What size resistors did you use?

Thanks! I ended up using 1/8 watt resistors like the BOM suggests, but I am pretty sure I could have fir the 1/4 watts in there if I would have covered the metal backplate with tape or something...

Awesome! Where did you source the 10uF tant cap? I can't find it anywhere!

it was quite a while back now but i think i got it at mammoth electronics. If now it was either small bear or mouser....

Edit: it looks like u can get them at small bear. They are listed under electrolytics on page 2

everything seems great, well done. you know, i want to make this project and i'm a bit confussed on something. in your photo i see you have a big capacitor on the second collumn from left. in the project's diagramm i see that there has to be two capacitors and three resistors (C10,C2,R1,R2,R8 according to the diagramm) beneath the C3. Instead of that you have a big capacitor. im i seeing something wrong or did you made a change? i'm a noob in all this and i would really like your guidance. thanks in advance  ;)

I did not have a small 1uF cap so I had to leave extra length on the leads and bend it over the other components. All the other stuff is hidden beneath! I actually rebuilt this one recently. I wish I would have had a multi layer ceramic to replace that cap! Oh well. Check out my rebuild report if you get a chance. I rewired it and changed the name/graphics (I didn't realize that this is a digital delay when I built it!  ::):
