it is, but no one really goes that route because it is not cost-effective to build it yourself.  they are cheap and well-made to begin with.

i used shears made for sheet metal that i have here in my lab and they worked beautifully, but I think you could get a reasonably priced pair at a hardware store that would work.

i just learned that the thinner substrates can be cut quite easily with shears!  no more band saw messyness!

Requests / Re: Catalinbread Formula No 5

the schematic I supplied at FSB has been verified.  'Bean has an agreement with Catalinbread though, and I don't think we will see anymore of their stuff here.

however.... Not to steal business from 'bean if he's was planning on making No5 Boards, but I'd be willing to make you a board or two if you'd like.  With 'bean's blessing of course.

I'm thinking about making a board to go with the Weber transformer for isolated & regulated outputs.

here's some info on multitap transformers.

https://taweber.powweb.com/store/magnetic.htm  (at bottom of page, non-toroidal multi-secondary designed for pedalboard supplies)

that would work great.  transformer isolated has its uses and benefits, but its not the end all.  separate regulated outputs is all I'm really asking for.  If this was to become a fabbed project I would be interested in a couple.  Not sure how much interest you need before it gets to that point.

Requests / Power Supply Project

Hey 'Bean, here's an idea.

What about a multiple output, regulated power supply for our pedals?  Something that will generate 12v/18v, -9v and 5 or so 9v outputs.  I'd definitely buy a board or two for a project that fits in a 1590BB and kicks out some series mA's!

I'd love to have an isolated PS, basically a workalike of the Pedal Power 2, but that requires finding a nice toroidal transformer to take advantage of.

thanks 'bean.  I may have other questions or confusions in the near future.

this article is about Boss FET switching, but it touches a little bit on driving a Relay from a Flip-Flop triggered by a momentary switch.

The flipflop could be replaced by a regular on off switch that drives some small transistor based toggle between 4.5v and ground to drive a relay.

Hey Brian,  I've gotten pretty good at designing single sided boards, and I'd like to get into fabb'd boards a bit.

Do you have any comments or tips for making the switch from etched single sided board design to two sided fabb'd design?

They are definitely different. The Balance control simply provides variable resistance to mix the modulated and base signals, whereas the Intensity has a more direct effect on the waveform. At minimum it is a fairly gentle ramp and at max it sounds more square (chopper effect).

Thanks for that explanation Brian, I knew there had to be more to it that I saw.  It sounds like a very 'organic' trem for lack of a better word.  Not cookie cutter at all.

awesome!  I hope you get hooked!  I'm starting to get back into performing, both with a band and solo after a 2 year hiatus.
