Build Reports / Re: First build: Thunderpuss
January 14, 2012, 02:17:35 PM
Hi!

It's been a while since I've posted that my Thunderpuss was finished, but I've been quite busy lately. This afternoon, I hooked it up to some jacks, a switch and a battery and I'm really proud to say it actually works!
So, it's ready to meet it's new home, which is gonna be a 1590A box. Can't wait to inject this into my stage rig (Marshall head, 2x12" speaker), as I've only tested it through a ridiculously small transistor practice amp.
Now, for the next project, a Green Bean. I'll keep you posted!

Pedal looks killer, man! Love to let that face off with Mr. Marshall.......

@ Haberdasher: If you have any more part nr's you'd like to share, please post them (and this one, my short-term memory sucks........) in the Mouser Basic Ordering Tutorial thread, I'm compiling a list for everyone who's interested. Thanx in advance and spread the word!

Open Discussion / Re: Still collecting vintage pedals?
January 12, 2012, 08:13:21 PM
My experience is that once I have a pedal, the first week is critical. No matter vintage or not, if I'm not connecting with it in the first week, it's out! Maybe it won't be on the pedalboard always, but once a pedal makes it past that first week, it stays. Few of my favorites: Crybaby wah (on my board for the past 15 years) and my Boss Overdrive (almost 20 years!). Might not be desirably vintage, but I can't miss them, and that's what counts for me!

General Questions / Re: Sourcing Parts
January 12, 2012, 07:43:24 PM
Hi,

Please check out this thread: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=2970.0. I'm trying to put a list together to make ordering at Mouser that much easier. Try to post your favorite parts in the same format as the very first post in this thread, makes it real easy for me to check and include......

Thanx, Paul

You could try something like this out for the bean:
http://diy-fever.com/misc/flexi-clip/

I read through the article, and though interesting, isn't it only clipping one side of the signal? So asym clipping is out of the question? Am I wrong (if so, please correct me....)? Hopefully I am, because it looks like a very cool ad-on for clipping circuits! Loads of possibilities and flexability!

Hey Tanaka,

Props for asking all those questions! I'm barely a little less new than you are, but these guys are really helpful and you (and I!) will learn a lot from them. Keep it up, eventually we'll make it!

They all look so nice! really like the variation with the knobs, it would be so easy to just use one type! Any experience with the Egodriver and Green Bean in combination with a Marshall amp?

General Questions / Re: New DC Jacks :(

I recently bought some Lumberg 1614-09's from Banzai. Really small, plastic body (mounts with a metal nut, but that don't matter!), looks to be ideal: http://www.banzaimusic.com/Lumberg-PSU-1614-09.html

Don't know if you can get them outside of europe, but I think Banzai ships international...

Mods / Re: Eleventy-bajillion diodes for your Sunking.
January 09, 2012, 04:38:31 PM
In the schematic and docs of the Green Bean there's a nice bit on experimenting with diodes. Read it and the whole "series/parallel, symetrical/asymetrical" deal becomes much clearer. There's even a switch to change between sym and asym in there, great example to use in other builds!

The Boneyard would be cool, but there is so much cool stuff already! My pedalboard is gonna be 10 ft long if I build everything I like.......

I'll second Add4 on this, it is beautiful!!

Hi Bret,

I already posted this in a reply to one of your other questions, but it is so good that I'm gonna post it again:

Very helpfull when deciding what resistors to use!

Hi,

Do you know the maths for calculating series and parallel resistors? With capacitors it's exactly the other way around, I think there is an article on Wikipedia that explains this stuff, will look it up!
