Build Reports / Shrine Fuzz #2
June 21, 2011, 08:34:16 PM
Another friend requested a violet rams head just like my buddy in The Shrine is using. I offered to make it custom but he insisted on the same logo as the first one so I had no choice. He convinced his bass player to get one too! Hopefully soon I'll have some to sell at their shows.
I socketed this one like crazy to experiment with. Spend most of my time on the mids knob and jumpered the emitter resistors for more gain. Planning on tweaking to my buddys specifications after he plays it for a little. I like this one a little more in the smaller 1590B enclosure.

Build Reports / El Pe Be 1
June 15, 2011, 12:25:56 AM
I feel like my girlfriend did such a great job painting this I had to post it to show everyone.
Inside there's nothing special here, just your run of the mill GGG LPB-1. But that doesn't disqualify it from being a great sounding addition to my board. Alone I get tons of volume boost, honestly almost too much! Into a fuzz i get total infinite sustain! Takes any fuzz pedal past its extreme. The boost is fat sounding but the circuit is so easy to manipulate for many other results. Try two in series for some fun results!

Open Discussion / Shipping Question
June 08, 2011, 02:37:20 AM
I haven't done too much shipping before and I need to ship a few things out. One thing is International and the other is in the US. Brian ships for an incredible low price. I'd like something like that. What do you guys use/recommend?

Mods / Fatpants 17v mod
June 08, 2011, 01:46:56 AM
Im wondering if I can take the 17v output tap and wire it to a second dc jack? If so then i could use a male to male dc plug to power another pedal at 17v externally.
Im thinking 17v tap to outside + lug of dc jack. Would this work?

Just saw an awesome demo of this pedal. Would be a great addition to the Clari(not).
Anyone know if this has been traced yet?

After I put in my order the other day they sent me some coupon codes. I spent about $100 bucks so I'm sure I'm not gonna be ordering again at least in the next week. I have 2 coupon codes which both expire on May 30, 2011. One if for $15 off an order of $100 and the other is $6 off an order of $50. Wish they would have let me use this towards my order but its all good. These also would be great towards enclosures but they are out of stock and I'd rather see someone use the coupon then let them expire. Send me a PM if your interested and I'll give you the code of course!  :)

Audio/Video Demos / Green Muff Gruntbox
May 28, 2011, 04:56:37 PM
Here's a video demo of a Gruntbox built to Green Muff specs. I built it stock, no modifications. It's pretty wild and insane definitely sounds much different than Violet Rams heads I've built. I didn't worry about lighting since the box is plain and not to visually stimulating. Not to mention Youtube makes it darker and really destroys the sound quality. The gruntbox schem matches the current mudbunny so it could qualify for a mudbunny green muff as well!  :)

Build Reports / Green Muff
May 28, 2011, 04:55:24 AM
First green muff I've done but third Gruntbox now. This pedal is really awesome. Lots of meaty bass on one end to nasty grit with tons of bite on the other end of the tone spectrum. Unity is slightly past noon on the volume knob but crank it to maxx for that bigger muff sound. Always tend to use it with sustain on full. Now I have to build a triangle and mayo!

Edit: Moved demo video to new section!

Open Discussion / Demo Section
May 28, 2011, 03:23:17 AM
I like what Myramyd said,
"I think with this new change in direction my advice would be do do some good demos of the unique/new projects. You could even ask us builders to do them. I think that will be invaluable for helping sell them. Right now we can easily pull up a demo of a pedal that is a clone on YouTube but, when you see a new project it's harder to really "want/need" to buy it unless you have a good handle on what it is and does."

There's a couple of demos out there which all sound great but they are scattered and not always easy to find especially for a newcomer taking a quick glance. I think if we could create a new section and start contributing demos it would be a great addition to the forum. It's always nice to hear other players applications.
I understand this means more work for Brian but it's just an idea and suggestion.

General Questions / Simple Potentiometer Question
May 25, 2011, 03:57:37 PM
In the process of ordering parts for some new builds. One of them being the open source Tube Screamer project. I'm unclear about the labeling on one of the pots. It says 20kW which I've never seen before. Hopefully someone can clarify a little for me.  :)

Mods / Mudbunny/Gruntbox Mids Control Pot
May 19, 2011, 08:24:56 PM
I have a bunch of gruntbox pcbs but I really wished they had the Mids control pots like the newer mudbunnys. Looking at the schem I realized its super easy but there's no value listed for the pot in the mudbunny pdf. Wondering what value you guys used?

Open Discussion / Tayda Updates
May 19, 2011, 03:02:51 PM
I've been talking to the sales person over at Tayda and they are adding a lot of stuff to their site! These include enclosures (1590B for now) and 3pdt switchs as someone else had mentioned. Upon talking to the person they told me they are trying to add more products for pedal builders to make it less stops for what you need. So they are working on DC power jacks, 1/4" jacks, more metal film resistors, more transistors, and adding poly box caps which they said will be half the price of other places but will be stocked 1 by 1 as its a pricey investment. I wanted to ask all of you if there was more products I should mention for them to add to their site. It seems to me like they are trying to make a great shop better!

This is a fuzz/od my buddy has been asking me to build for him now for awhile. I'd personally like one for myself too. It has the extra setting via an interal DIP switch. There's also a few different versions. This video seemed to show most of the settings. Check it out, what do you guy think?

Open Discussion / Just In New Polyester Film Caps
March 24, 2011, 03:27:15 AM
Got an email today from the Mammoth Electronics newsletter about a few new products, one of them being to my delight!  ;D Vikiin Polyester Film Box Caps! They are very reasonably priced and look just like Topmay/Wima quality. I'm getting tired of waiting for Futurlec to ship my order out, so I'm kinda feeling going with these. I'm sure I'll get them first too. Thinking this could be a very crucial group buy also if enough people are interested. Mammoth cuts some serious deals on their other products.
What do you guys think? Anyone tried this brand before?

Seen this around before. Only 6 bucks and if it works efficently with one hand i say this is essential. Anyone used one before?
