Maybe it's time to go to a Group Buys model like the forms sometimes do with PCB's?

This is epic. Since this thread has been going I have had memories of "Live At Pompeii" going on in the background of my brain. Time to rewatch that classic. I will definitely jump for this project if it goes on Deadend Fx.

Also look at a 2nd hand slim phatty, an older model but rock solid. Used ones on ebay and reverb are super reasonable. Like the Behringer clone, you'd need a MIDI keyboard to control it.

I build about a pedal a month and work on synth related projects too.
As my job has become huge in my life it's all pushed to the edges, and playing in bands takes away from DIY too. What I notice is it's not the DIY that's missing but the ability to spend "recreational" time on the internet conversing with people about it in communities like this, and like diystompboxes.com and electro-music.com
It's been amazing to play even a peripheral role in project development or testing and just brainstorming.
I just don't use the internet as much as I used to.
maybe in an "up" economy it's the same for others. I do solder, but after working 45-60 hours a week I can't even drum up the answer my own emails let alone jump on the forum.
it's sad and I miss the community interaction I was able to previously have.

I've built mostly really exotic pedals, but the one thing that's always in the chain is Red Llama/Hot Tubes. Bulletproof, compact + versatile for any kind of music or input signal (guitar, rhodes, synth, drum machine, miscellaneous).

Madbean it's probably not highest on the list nor the most ambitious undertaking but I recall an early prospect list for Etcher's Paradise showed a number of Tim Escobedo-based circuits...if you get around to those this year, I for one would be grateful and willing to give them a verification effort

I've been listening to CAN. Their totally unique drummer Jaki Liebezeit died week before last.

I can't make the youtube embeds work. here's a link.

This year we lost Ray Wilson of Music From Outer Space, but happily Synthcube has bought out the business and is offering MFOS designs and continuing the legac. Weird Sound Generator was one of the first non pedal projects I built, is easy and IMO very kid friendly. Check out Synthcube for those they have a special MFOS section, though i don't know if all the projects are fully posted yet.

A rackmount from that era which might have it, Yamaha SPX90. Always cheap and abundant, yet enjoys a cult status

I think it's possible more users in diystompboxes.com forum have done this one!
I did this almost 10 years ago and don't remember the details. Stupidly it was my first project and an expert friend had to help me trouble shoot the wiring. In the end we had to build a custom power supply and there is no bypass on my unit. It's more like a rack unit, not so much like a pedal in my build. Sorry I can't be more help but it's so long ago...

R.G. Keen did one--which means that there's probably ample support threads on diystompboxes.com should you decide to build.
