Title: January Builds
Post by: dan.schumaker on February 01, 2017, 04:38:01 PM
I haven't posted any builds in the last few months, but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy finishing up some new things.  I have started posting most of them on instagram as well (along with some super mediocre playing clips :D).  Here are some of my favorites the last month or so...

Aion Flare (Flair)

Crikey you've been busy!

Any details on the Calhoun? A friend asked about doing a Jack White in a box style pedal recently, i was planning on putting a muff and a micro amp in, the twin twelve would finish it off nicely!

The Calhoun is just like the Mike Campbell one.  I like the Twin Twelve.  Its similar to the Superbolt, but I find it a little more "loose" garage-band-y and the Superbolt to be a little more "tight" and focused if that makes sense.

But for a Jack White in a box, I think with the twin twelve, you would have all the major boxes checked off :)

I've had a look in all the obvious places but can't find a schem or a layout, do you remember where you got it from?
I suppose a good place to start is a Supreaux and a charge pump

Good job, buddy! 8)
Can you give us further information about two of these pedals?
I'd like to know what combination of LDR/LED you used in The Depth pedal.
And what boards includes the Hoof Reaper pedal.

Thanks! ;)

Wow, very impressive builds!

Love the Depths especially, have been thinking about building it for some time now...

How do you like the crazy 8 knobs fuzz factory? Aion pcbs are so excellent.

Amazing job!

The reverb is just a Rub-A-Dub on vero.

I like it, but 100% transparent, I have never successfully built a Harbinger or other vibe, so I might be a little biased.  But for a LDR-based vibe that fits in a 125B, I am very happy with it.

I use clear clear label paper on bare boxes for all my builds, with a few sprays of clear coat on top of that.  I've been using that method for the last 2-3 years and it has worked great.  Here is a link to the sticker paper I use:

I used GL5549 LDR's and a diffused yellow LED for the Depths.  Tried it initially with a clear white one, but that gave me a ton of distortion to the circuit.
The Hoof Reaper has a Hoof fuzz, Tone Reaper and Green Ringer Octave in it.

There is a lot to like about the Fuzz Factory.  It is a totally crazy pedal.  This is the first fuzz factory that I have built, so I like it.  And like everything Kevin makes at Aion, it is a totally top-notch pedal :)

You've been busy! Great builds. I'm glad you are getting some mileage out of my audio router board.

I have another question about the Silvertone/Twin Twelve pedal
I got the layout you used, and I found also this one: http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.it/search?q=twin+twelve
and this one: http://effectslayouts.blogspot.it/2017/07/jhs-twin-twelve-v1.html

Except a bit difference in the charge pump and a missing probably pulldown resistor (10M, is it too high? ???) the layouts are pretty much the same and of course them come from the same source.
Here the two veroboard layouts and the basic schematic.

There's some doubt about the accuracy and the fidelity of the schematic about the JHS Twin Twelve.
Did you have find problem of noise or something else with this circuit?
And how it sounds comparing it with the original JHS, at least listening the demo?

Thanks! ;)
