I know temperature plays a big part in failure, but my suspicion is that the temperature plays into the voltage fluxuations.

This article says:
https://passive-components.eu/capacitors-voltage-and-temperature-derating-and-category-concepts/
"voltage derating is the most effective way to increase life time"

...so it makes it sound like higher voltage rating is more important than rated hours even if the application is within the rating best practice guidelines.

just looking for some real-world type confirmation or experiences

Does buying Electrolytic caps with a higher voltage rating than required help extend the lifetime? I haven't looked at many de-rating charts so I'm not sure if they address this specific question.

For instance, if I need a cap rated at 16v. All other factors being equal, which would be the better choice? A 5000hr rated 16v cap, or a 2000hr rated 50v cap?

Anybody ordering Wima and/or Kemet box caps from Tayda? How's that going so far?

You can get Newark's house brand (Multicomp Pro) for pretty cheap with no minimum order quantity. I'd say it's on par with Xicon.

Here's a link: https://www.newark.com/w/c/passive-components/resistors-fixed-value/through-hole-resistors?brand=multicomp-pro&resistance=1kohm&power-rating=250mw&resistance-tolerance=posneg-1pc
I've used these for numerous projects they are great quality.

Wow those are great prices but the shipping is a flat $10 and $150 to hit the free mark. I wish Mouser would do a house brand for cheap like that.

I usually get the $3.50 economy shipping from Mouser which is hard to beat.

Ive been looking at the Yageo but the prices seem to be all over thplace depending on the value.

(other than Tayda) Anybody landed on any candidates for a new "standard" that covers a nice range of values and wattage ratings and allows quantities less than 100 for a decent price?

General Questions / Re: Can pot burn?
November 10, 2020, 01:33:57 PM
Sounds like the resistive track in the pot burned, and possibly the wiper as well, right at the spot where the wiper was touching. Why don't you pull the pot out and replace it? Then take the pot apart and examine the damage. Be sure to post a pic of it here for us.

But, I do have a 125B version that runs on 18v (still positive ground). That's something I still plan on seeing through in the near future. It's in the Project Development area, called the Tourbus.

Wow, not sure how I missed that... The 125B is just as good for me. I think if you converted it to negative ground you have a smash hit.

They still have one out of stock listing for one transistor.

Edit: found some pots in stock too!

Edit2: here is a yellow knob
http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/product-p/10030.htm

Annnd screws...
http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/category-s/130.htm

They may not even be aware that this stuff is still listed

Long story short is they are a B2B company now and they lost their give-a snit

Putting this here to gather any interest or ideas?

I understand this is a moonshoot type request but as they say, you'll never get it unless you ask...

I'd like a...
Deluxe Memory Man with negative ground... in a 1590B

It would be nice to have a charge pump built-in but 18v would be ok too. Just please no positive ground.

Other nice to haves would be:
- variable adjust rate and depth
- variable adjust low highpass filter on the repeats ( like on the Deluxe Memory Boy)
- one chip short delay switch (like on dc echo)

Thanks for listening to all the ranting Brian

It's much more than just "what's a half hour of my time worth" or whatever.

It could be argued that all the stuff that you mentioned are the things you use to determine your level of expertise and therefore billing rate and then you present that to the customer as something simple they can understand such as billable hours.

J107 VGS(off) min/max -0.5/-4.5

Tayda doesn't have J113 at all.
J107 = 255 in stock and they're TO-92
Mouser has a pretty good price break on the J113
Qty.   Unit Price
Ext. Price
1   $0.41   $0.41
10   $0.276   $2.76
100   $0.129   $12.90
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ON-Semiconductor-Fairchild/J113?qs=ljbEvF4DwONIvgQL%2FiOeMA%3D%3D

And Small Bear has them too
http://smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/transistor-fet-j113/

Also, Mind the pinout... the J113 has a couple of interchangeable pins which means they can be reversed and used for phasers designed with the opposite pinout. Not sure if that will be issue for the J107 since I don't see it stated in the spec sheet.

and you should usually match them for the best results...

Someone here said that J113s work. I thought I'd be smart and bought 100 J112s; they all measure around 2.5-3 volts cutoff. Maybe too high of a cutoff voltage?

https://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=31196.msg300410#msg300410

The DOD Phasor 401 I have uses J113's

From the respective datasheets:
Vgs(off) Min/Max
J113 -0.5V / -3.0V
2N5457 -0.5V / -6.0V
2n5952 -1.3V / -3.5V
