Open Discussion / Re: New Puppy Day

Cute as.
We want to get a dog, but we have a lot of issues that hinder the adoption:
1. We only have a small backyard.
2. We can't agree on what type, but a rescue mongrel of medium-size will be a good all-rounder.
3. My daughter has a dog phobia, but the best cure is to get a puppy.

I'm a big fan of kelpies and cattle dogs (had them before growing up), but it'd be cruel putting one in a small backyard.

Absolutely loved LOTR when I first read it many years ago.
My only 2 gripes are:
1. Frodo was just plain annoying.
2. No battle of Hobbiton in the last movie. That was a friggin ripoff. And the fact those 2 hobbits that got into the Entwine didn't come back a bit taller.

Ahh, the joys of returning to your first pedal 3 years later.
I've been off work recovering from Tonsillectomy, so soldering has been a nice distraction from the pain.

Anyway, one of the pots in this pedal was a plastic 9mm job. I'd ordered a proper steel replacement months ago, and now I had the time to replace it. I pull it apart, look at my shoddy work, find problems everywhere. I put it back together over and over again for other little problems to pop up. Last time I pull it apart, a leg of another of the 9mm pots break. Try resoldering, and all the legs break. BUGGER!
Due to the amount of times I've had to bend the legs, it's only a matter of time before the others fail,so I'm thinking the next order from Tayda will have a full replacement pot set for this bloody pedal. It's not my favourite effect, but it's what got me started down this rabbit hole so it deserves to be fixed properly!
Rant over.

I'm starting to develop opinions on mushrooms. The ones I can get at the shop, anyway.

They carry two types -- white button mushrooms, and big brown mushrooms. (They are the same species, apparently, the buttons are just harvested earlier.)

I find that the button mushrooms have next to no flavour when cooked, compared to brown. Anyone else?
Mushrooms on the bbq. A knob of butter and black pepper.
Yum.

1000 Mods
Saw them at Marrickville Factory Theatre last fortnight with about 250 other punters. Nice small room, great sound, epic night of psych & stoner rock.

If I go into a store I don't even want to see a sales person until I actually need something. The last thing I want is for them to hover nearby like vultures waiting for their prey to die. Stay the hell away from me, if I need a vulture I'll let you know. Go play poker in the backroom, or chat with the nice lady behind the cashier or something. Oddly enough, there's a curious inverse ninja thing happening with sales persons, because when you actually need one there's usually no one to be found. I reckon the sure fire way to not be bothered by them is to appear to be wanting to speak to one. They'll scatter more quickly then rats or cockroaches in a room when you suddenly turn on the lights.
Similar goes for some waiters at restaurants. As soon as you arrive, they're circling like mosquitos.
When it comes time to get the bill, or another drink.... they have tunnel vision, and look straight past you.

Someone has figured a way to get every single Toyota Camry (& Corolla) driver in the area to instantly pull in front of me and do 10-20kph below the speed limit.
There's a conspiracy afoot, I tells you.

( Not in a gigging band currently )

I agree that there's a good chance it was a heckler.  Heckler's are a real PITA unless you're a band
that can afford security.  ( which the majority of us cannot )

The last guitarist/vocalist that I played with was great with mean hecklers.  He'd beat the snot out of them, if possible.
They didn't come back.  I guess it just comes with the job.  Not pleasant at all.

On heckling, Tim Rogers, the frontman for You Am I, is great with hecklers. I mean, it's NOT a You Am I gig until Tim fires up at someone in the crowd. Very entertaining.

Dedicate the next song to "the people who just asked the band to turn down because they can't hear each other talk".
Play something like Dead Kennedy's - Nazi Punks F... off

Just ordered parts from Tayda for a Valve Caster and Dead Astronaut's Tremshifter.
I know the Valvecaster isn't exactly the best pedal around, but a tube sticking out of a pedal looks cool. More of a work of art than anything, and ideas are constantly forming in my head on how to make this look pretty swish.

After this, it'll be a matter of trying to build stuff from my boxes of crap, and not order anything else for a while.

Ah, so it's not just me.
All the best to them, getting it back up.

It made for an easy artwork.
My cheap dremel does the job.

I just finished a clone of Emanating Fist Black Acid a couple of nights ago.
Very simple build, and amazing results!

Unfortunately the vid file is too large, but it sounds like the link up top.

did you etch all the boards?

Nah these were fabricated pcbs.  A lot of these builders had very little to zero electronics knowledge so there was a lot to cover.  What components are polarized.  What is the socket for.  Does the socket have polarity.  You know, everything!

Nice work, Chromo!
You wouldn't believe how many times I have to check what leg of a LED is the anode. Google is my friend.
