they look like some russian germanium diodes i have, known as D9D.  can't be sure though.

This is useful. I've had a bit of trouble locating info about the Д9 diodes. Is there much in the way of sonic differences between the various Д9 diodes? I've got some of the Д9Б and they sound good to me in the circuits I've tried, so I've been wondering if it's worth picking up some of the others.

That's good to know... the most I know of Russian is that bec hetto *probably* means net weight (work exports livers and tongue there.) Oh, and that vodka means hooch.

I have some D9E somewhere, I'm sure, but I haven't used them for anything yet.

How would you compare them? They probably vary a bit with respect to forward voltage. So what would be interesting besides a current-vs-voltage plot? Has anyone ever taken impulse responses (at different levels) of a pair of clipping diodes?
