Title: SMD projects to practice with?
Post by: p_wats on July 11, 2020, 09:05:11 PM
I've done a bit bit of SMD soldering (FV-1 chip, the dual sided fuzz from the Function(FX) pack), but am interested in others, as I am tempted to get into DIY eurorack, but figured I'd go with a few more SMD pedal builds first.

Any suggestions on PCBs/projects I can order beyond just the FV-1 chip?

Chromesphere has one I believe, its an lpb1 boost. Damn small too, it fits onto the bottom of a 9mm pot. It's an easy build though. I'm still trying to decide what to do with mine.

Sounds cool! Any idea where to get a PCB?

I recently got one of these but haven't done anything with it yet

Oh cool! Thanks. They've got a distortion as well. Might try both for fun.

Shu-tone (Dan) has a couple of Fuzzes that have SMD.  Pedal PCB's Mini Heterodyne Receiver also has SMD chips.  I don't know of anything that had SMD resistors though, if that's what you were looking for.

I have a BBD delay that is all smd, and soon (hopefully) a version of the Rockett Dude (all 1590a, of course)

I'm releasing 1 SMD board per week. I have ~100 of these things. All boards are verified. The boards are small, so they are pretty cheap to print at OSHPark ($5-7, including shipping)... https://oshpark.com/profiles/DLW

Nice. Are those the micro ones or the bigger ones. There seems to be 2 sizes.

Not a SMD BBD (although that would be cool)  ;D. It's a MN3005 delay with everything else SMD in a 1590a

0805 for resistors and ceramic caps. 1206 (class A) for some of the polarized caps (tantalum).

Do you also sell PCBs? I didn't see any on the site in your signature.

Woah! Awesome. I've never ordered anything from oshpark.com, so I'll look into their shipping to Canada, but there are some cool options here. Thanks!

That still sounds cool.  Do you have a link to the project?

I do sell PCB extras from any of my builds.  If you are interested in anything, just send me a PM.
