Title: The Go Fuzz (Grind Custom Bendover)
Post by: trustybs on January 21, 2014, 10:01:12 PM
Hi there, just finished this bendover fuzz wich is supposed to be a tone bender like but with npn transistors that should sound like pnp.  I never played a tone bender but this sound very sillicon IMO.  Anyway, it's a good sounding hi gain fuzz.  I added a sag knob and tried a different box. Fun but i should not have put the in and out jacks on the side!

The enclosure is from musikding and the knobs are from banzai and labelled as ampeg style knobs.  The enclosure sure looks cool but the angle of the face is a bit too sharp for easy footswitching. Anyway it was worth trying.

If this were in a competition it would get my vote instantly.

Wow, astounding finish! I might get a walk around musikding and Banzai webpages...

That enclosure finish and overall exterior are really nice!

Did you use SS9013 trannies or other NPN Si with hfe between 80 and 120?

Made me chuckle... I have guitar/pedal knobs on my stove and on various dimmer switches through the house.

Very cool build!

Oh yes, i should have mentioned it.  I could not find SS9013 so i ended up trying what i had in stock and put 2n5551 (the ones i like the best of the ones i tested).  May be that's why it sound very silicon.  And i don't know how to mesure hfe.  I should investigate.  Thanks for reminding me.

You'd either need a semi-conductor device like the Atlas to measure your trannies or you can do it with some DMM...but i don't like using that...

PM me your addy, i'll send you a measured pair of SS9013, i like that the people who support me get what they've paid for and expected by the said purchase.

Cheers!

Hi there, there was a looooooooooooong time since you send me the trannies but i changed my computer and had troubles with that.  Anyway, thanks again for sending the SS9013.  Really, there is a big difference, the pedal sound is less generic fuzz, a bit less gain but it is not as "acid" as before, in a word GREAT.  I also tried the germanium you send me.  They sound really nice but with less less gain. No matter the trimmers setting i get very little gain.  But it sounds fantastic! i love the sound they give.  I considered adding a switch to choose between the ss9013 and the germanium but i should put two more trimmers as the setting is very different.  So i leave it as it is as i can swap transistors when i want.  Anyway thank you again, now i don't i have a pedal i like, i have a pedal (in fact two) i love.
