The « Mass of Muff » project.
Decided to make a build log of this built as i go through it, makes a while that i'm planning it, was just not taking the time (or guts) to get at it.
So here we go!
All built on Pickdropper's MiniMuffin BMP layout.
The transistors used are sets that Marauder have put together.
Much thanks to Dave and Cleggy for helping me make this project real among other good folks (to be seen further in the progres) that have also took part in this stupid idea! ;D
Group Shot!

The only circuit that had a «standard» pinout is the P19, got me some good practice at trannie leg twisting.
More to come later!
Rej
Damn. This is going to be epic. Interested to see the switching arrangement.
I AM SO EXCITED... deep breath.. deep breath. This is going to be, dare I say, epic! Cant wait to see it done Rej.
I have been sitting on 5 of those PCBs also and wanted to make a 3 in one at one point. Might have to work on that this summer.
Cody
Can't wait to see the 2P8T switch you're going to use ;)
I really wish you'd do an ambitious build one of these days, Rej. You're more than capable. ;-P
So 8 BMPs in 1 enclosure?? :o
8 sets of pots or are you going to get fancy with relays ;D
Not throwing in an IC Muff for good measure? ;)
Eagerly waiting in anticipation!
I won't be impressed until you do it in 3d with bare solid wire.
Kidding.

That's the same thing I said.
Hehe, thanks for the funky comments guy :)
All of this is going in a 1590D, the 8 muffs are grouped in bank of 4, that you select wich one to use via a rotary switch. Master bypass on each banks. All mechanical.
No IC Muff in this one.... but there's plenty of other Muff variant to build 2 or 3 other of these... so who knows! ;)
Don't forget to include a switch to turn all of them on at once. ;D
Wickedness! Looking forward to seeing it boxed up. What a project! :o
Outta be interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing how this one develops, Rej.
subscribed! This is going to be EPIC, can't wait for the vidya demo!!!
Yeah, I think a good listening test will prove that each Muff is different. Also, I will enjoy it.
Jacob
Well.. ... Now i sincerly hope to not deceive you guys.
Too make sure i would'nt, i've started with myself.. Haha...
Ordered the wrong taper for the volume pots of each muff.. Should have them in next week.
In the meanwhile there's plenty of offboard wiring to keep me busy! :D
Well! That was a lot of drilling! :o

Muff harem! :D
Holy crap that is a lot of holes. I hope they all line up and everything fits as it should! Looking forward to your progress
I know you've been busy with the STM etc but hows this coming along??

I wish it would have been that easy to drill it..
2 weeks off for the holydays.... getting on this now! :D
Giddy with antic....
...pation
Cody
Drilled the face plate, everything will work great with the enclosure....
Now! Onto wiring... might be the death of me! :o

this is gonna be bad ass
rotary switching pedals for the win
Houston! We have a problem! :-\
The threaded part of the 9mm shaft is not long enough to cover the thickness of the enclosure and faceplate... might end with some Dremel engineering..... ::)

HAHAHAHA!
Word, i'll do it per the Godz will!
It still seems a shame to stop at 8. You could poke some more holes in the sides for some extra pots Rej. Im looking forward to the next instalment. 8)
Looking great.
That is lot of muff for one man to handle.
In all seriousness though it will prove very informative I imagine.

Well.. the point of that built is at first a personnal challenge.. just filling an enclosure with as much stuff i can in the neatest manner.... i think anyone who have built a good load of pedals understand that at some point you have to challenge yourself a bit.
On the other hand, i have a quite big collection of pedals ranging from authentic vintage units to a multitude of DIY builts that i've now started to rent to bands going in studio. I usually always have 3 or 4 muff hanging around in different variation, when someone asks for some muffs, i'd just send them the whole package. With a unit like this it offer far more options without the need of plugging and unplugging bunch of pedals and all that.. an all in one solution for the muffage needs.
So if the hire business goes well we might even see more multi-muffs or multi-other stuff. Modulation next... :D

Just in muff i think i could build 2 or 3 other of them... but i'm not quite sure i want to get into it.
I think that this approach of multi have more benefit with circuits that have a multitude of variants like tube screamer, fuzz faces, benders and the likes.
When you get into Modulation or any Time effect.. people will tend to like better using an original unit.. must be a fame or ego thingy.... saying to their friends that they recorded the track with a script logo and phase45 instead of a clone has more weigth for them and makes better pictures!
It's all about the cork sniffing.. and i've got shitload of cork! ;D
