I've been listening mostly to old tunes this year.. nothing has really intrigued me. But here is some of the new albums i think are worth checking out. Ive chosen the lesser known songs on the albums that i think are awesome:

Bon Iver - Bon Iver: More production heavy than previous albums, but still good. This is the last song on the album, a different style for Bon Iver but i think they pull it off.

Title Fight - Shed : Raw hardcore, not game changing but worth a listen if you are into punk/hardcore.

Fucked Up  - David Comes to Life: An excellent "concept" album, really unusual dynamic for a punk band with awesome melodic parts and raw as hel vocals.

Graveyard - Hisingen Blues: Bluesy, stoner-rock vibe. I was looking for a current band like this for ages and these guys fit the bill. This song (The Siren) has such a great build up.

Mutemath - Odd Soul: I was into the last album from these guys but this one is even better, love the drumming.

My Morning Jacket - Circuital: I have to say i prefer Evil Urges but this album has a couple standouts, including this really beautiful/feel-good track.

Build Reports / Simple Pork Barrel in 1590B
November 09, 2011, 10:10:19 AM
Built this up tonight after a long study sesh. Its the old style board without the pcb mounted pot design. Decided to challenge myself a bit and see if i could fit it in a 1590B.. Just made it. If it was literally one mm deeper i wouldnt have been able to get the back plate on. And i had to compromise and put the DC jack down the bottom.. meh!

Anyway it worked sweet first go. I had to turn the trimmer all the way up, any lower and the sound was distorted and crackily.. Also maybe not as much depth as i would like but looking around the forum it seems that is a common complaint with this build. I like it though. I owned an old Japanese CE-2 a while back, and thought it was pretty overrated.. so i sold it. I think this build sounds pretty similar (except for the switching options of course). I like the vibe option and the clean blend on this. Also couldnt be bothered painting it and just used leftover knobs.

Heres some pics:

And a soundclip:

Actually I think those bright yellow knobs were from mammoth. Most of the other stuff is from tayda though!

Build Reports / Mudbunny
November 05, 2011, 01:04:26 AM
Its been a long time since I've finished including boxing up a build.. actually I've got about 6 completed pcbs yet to be boxed.. Just takes time to drill, paint, wire etc!
Anyway this is a mudbunny i built for a friend for his bday. Roughly to civil war specs. BC549 transistors. Sounds really good! I like it most out of the 3 muffs I've built so far. I stole someones idea of using leftover resistor wire to turn the pots into pcb mounted which is why they are three pots in a line. Also, i can recommend Tayda footswitches, pots, dc jacks and in/out jacks, they are all really good. Used spray cans for the paint job, although I'll probably stop using this technique in the future due to the toxic smell it gives the pedal and also how easily the paint chips off. Also the colour in the pictures is a bit off (used my iphone), its more orange coloured.
