Moved back to Kailua Kona Hawaii last month after almost 8 years away and was curious if there are any pedal heads about.

Tech Help - Projects Page / 15pf silver mica substitute
February 08, 2016, 04:39:56 AM
Any recommendations for a substitute for a 15pf silver mica cap?. For the FV-1 reverb board. Never got it to work and had a friend help me out with it and traced a potential issue down to the 15pf silver mica cap and there xstl. Unsure if I can use a ceramic equivalent for this board.
Thanks

High pitched whine when effect is engaged. I had posted this before the big crash and had tried the suggestions from Jon in removing and adding a jumper to the resistor pads in line with the 9v in , and a few others . The whine is still there. I put back resistors I had removed. Replaced all IC's with new and same result. Wired for true bypass and used the corrected wiring for jack 1 was per updated build doc. No subs and here are voltages. I am stumped as to what do do now, so an S.O.S to the more skilled than me : )
IC 1: 4.34/4.35/4.36/0/4.36/4.36/4.46/8.73

I thought I should  post a thank you for the help and patience everyone has shown me in here and a few pics of the builds you walked me through the troubleshooting I needed to get them working properly. Each build gets a little easier and the wires get a little shorter : ) Still reaching for the level of what I see in here (the first few I did I am scared to open again since they are like a jack in the box surprise and they may stop working if I do). Either way, I dig the effects, the forum crew and laughing at my mistakes when I figure them out on my own (wiring the input to the output pads and the output to the input pads "wtf..how come I have no sound??" and drilling the pot holes on the wrong side of the enclosure so the board doesn't line up..twice!). Onto the next project in the pile : )

Fired up my doppleganger today and after a few loose wire fixes it worked : )  A very cool pedal to enjoy. One wrinkle though. It may be a simple case of a new toggle switch but the "square" toggle only works if I set it directly centre. It does not "click" in but sort of balances between the two sides. If I flip it to left or right there is no noticeable function. Set in the middle, I get a universe of cool, swirly goodness. I reflowed all the solder joints but have not checked any voltages etc since it works except for the toggle issue. When I was populating the board I made the mistake of soldering the toggle switches (and sadly pots as well) to the wrong side of the board (twice if you can believe it!..that has to go in some kind of wall of shame noob mistake archive). I was delicate as possible removing them but I was wondering if I could have damaged the sockets so there is a sketchy connection now or could it just be a bunk toggle switch. The pads looked intact under my magnifier glass before I soldered the toggle back in. I will pick up a new toggle this week but wanted to check in with the more experienced crew to see if anyone has run into a similar issue.
Thanks.

I may have bitten off more than I can chew on these but decided to do something scary (more so than my regular nerves on building the wicked cool projects in here) and ordered one of AresAudio's FV-1 based reverb boards and the FV-1 Echotapper delay kit. First time soldering surface mount ic's for the reverb build so that will be an adventure. Fingers crossed and ramping up my patience level as much as possible. To start the head scratching already I notice the reverb board does not have  designated foot switch hook up's. I'll have to tackle that part after I get the rest built up. Any tips and encouragement is greatly accepted : )

I've been reading through the forum on wiring for a multi effect pedal build. Here is my stumbling block. I built a Moodring reverb and a 1776 multiplex (thanks again for the huge amount of help on that one mgwhit) and have them ready to go into the box. I wired the moodring for buffered wiring (as per mooring pdf wiring) and the multiplex with the standard wiring diagram from madbean.  Most wiring diagrams I have found are using the standard wiring diagram found here in madbean. Is it possible to still have the buffered wiring set up for the moodring and regular wiring for the multiplex and connect them together. I would like to be able to use them together as well as individually (delay and reverb together and delay only and reverb only). When I wired them up  the delay works but reverb does not. Reverb alone produces a high pitched wine. Although both LED's light up. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Open Discussion / Low Voltage reading on Mutiplex build
February 10, 2015, 10:33:49 PM
I've been reading through the posts on voltage readings etc for the multiplex from 1776 but did not find one that sort of addresses my issue (unless I missed it if so sorry for the repeat post). I can only get to 0.36v and my 2k trimpot is maxed out. The LED stays dim if not at all. I did notice when I first powered up the led was bright and the voltage was well over 5v so I let it discharge and tried again very slowly. Now it peaks at 0.36v. Any suggestions?. I let it discharge again and started over but ended up with the same results.
Thanks Pete...***** Little more reading through posts in here and found my answer. Worked like a charm.

Open Discussion / Moodring build
January 21, 2015, 05:13:47 PM
Holy smokes this little pedal has a lot of "space" and amazing range. Few little tweaks to do (stumped on the toggle switch install but will figure that out) but what a cool build. Thanks Brian for having this : )

Open Discussion / Adding a dry/kill switch to Moodring
December 08, 2014, 11:26:54 PM
Almost finished the moodring board and looking ahead I realized I am unsure of how to wire up the kill/dry switch. Still fresh on building pedals so any advice would be greatly appreciated : )

Open Discussion / Substitute for Lm78L05?
October 12, 2014, 05:59:36 PM
My local shop did not have the LM78L05 (well they did but it was labelled lm78L15A?) so I bought a LM78L06 regulator. Will this be ok to substitute the LM78L05 with in the zero point micro II?.
Thanks

General Questions / Zeropoint Micro II sister board
September 26, 2014, 03:20:56 PM
I am building the zero point micro II and decided on a larger enclosure (1590b since I had one already). With a little more space I was wondering if separating each pot from the sister board and mounting them individually would be ok?. I don't see any copper connecting them.  I just want to use the extra space in the box to my advantage and for a less compact look to the finished knob placement. Any tips would be great, I am brand new to the forum here.
Thanks
