Build Reports / Well, it's not a pedal but....
December 28, 2011, 07:25:45 PM
it is my first cab build and one of many to come. Many flaws, learned a ton for the next one. I guess I'll give myself a C+. Had a buddy help me resaw and glue up out of the gate, but after that it was pretty much my build thus the flaws. If you want to know what not to do just PM me

Plan to match this little 10" speaker up with a Champ build. Right now I don't have anyway to test it out  I have a Weber DT-10 for some early speaker break-up...I hope at lower volumes for home. The wood is Purple Heart wood. Mitered the joints and routed. Found out my router skills need some work   ::) But, you have to start somewhere right.

My pedal builds were on hold until I got this done. Now on to pedals and a Champ amp build.

This was the wood when I got it

Open Discussion / Acoustic amp kit
December 08, 2011, 10:08:41 PM
So, does such an animal exist and has anyone ever built one? I now a PA is the answer but what fun is buying one when I can build an amp and char myself  :-\

Would really like a little something for the bedroom hacker that I am for the Taylor and would add this to my impossibly long project list.

Build Reports / Soul Peach
November 18, 2011, 02:59:35 PM
This is a guitarpcb build, circuit designed by dcountry13. It is a based off a combo of a Frantone PeachFuzz and a Danelectro Cool Cat Fuzz. Has similarities with a Big Muff and its tone stack. The middle clipping gain stage uses a LM386.

General Questions / Dual gang pots
November 08, 2011, 08:42:17 PM
Ok, kind of embarrassed to ask this but here goes. Won't be the first time I asked something stupid I guess....nor the last.

First the disclaimer. I've never used a dual gang pot.

Now, on the build doc's for the Sunking it lists this pot twice, so I was thinking I needed two of them...turns out I guess I don't which is of course AFTER I drilled 4 holes  :P Anyhoooooo, in looking at folks builds I only see 3 knobs.

So, I assume I take the top row of lugs on one pot and wire into Gain 1 and then take the bottom row of lugs on the same pot and wire into Gain 2. Correct?

We need an embarrassed smiley here on the forum even if it is just for me  ;)

Open Discussion / Testing an IC
October 26, 2011, 06:01:08 PM
Hey guys, much of this stuff is new to me and I thought I would ask you guys before I go fishing around Google on this.

How does one go about testing a delay type IC for ms's? In other words, how do you confirm the chip you got actually has the ms's it purports to have? For example, take some of Small Bears Cool Audio. If I wanted to test those to see what exactly I can expect from the cirucit how do you do that?

And, I love the Bear's place, so I'm not implying anything here whatsoever. Just used his as an example. You can subsititue anyone's PT2399 if you want for my question.

Thanks,
John

Build Reports / Over Dose - Shout out to The Mule
October 20, 2011, 07:27:28 PM
So this is a BYOC OD2 with a boost. The boost is almost a separate circuit on its own. Can be run by itself or in conjunction with the OD but all the knobs and toggles only interact with the OD portion. Built it all to MosFET specs. Still have to play with the trimmers to get what my ears think they like. I've got it set to the old TS of yesteryear values right now.

Build Reports / Plastic Fantastic
October 03, 2011, 04:06:58 PM
This is an OD'ish circuit, the Cap'n Munch, from guitarpcb. I sort of had a wild hair and for poops and giggles I thought I would house this thing in this. I was so worried about noise and being able to listen to the radio through it I socketed darn near anything that moved in order to tweak it. Also, went with the battery for the same reason. Much to my shock and happiness, it was completely quiet. I have no idea why though. I mean unless I dimed the gain and volume no hiss or anything. So I went from a novelty type thing for fun and figured it would just sit on a shelf to something I will slap down on my home pedal board.

The circuit itself is killer. It cleans up so well but if you want to split the wall you can do that too with some grind.

Build Reports / Black Magic Sounds
September 26, 2011, 02:46:43 PM
I saw where Bean said other builds are welcome so here is my latest. It is a circuit from Barry over at guitarpcb. A 3 in one pedal if you will. I think a dude was selling this board in the BST lounge here a few weeks back. Running all 3 together will melt your face, which may be your thing  :) .

It is a boost, with a fuzz into an OD and everything in between. Had a bitch of a time getting one of them to fire up so I popped open a great beer to celebrate when I did get it working...great if you like a lot of hops and high alcohol content  ;D .
