Thank you HamSandwich. I'll give it a shot and add the resistors for good measure. Appreciate the help!

Willybomb, thanks for the pics.

I'll take a crack at this soon.

Ha that's awesome!!! Thanks again. I don't understand schematics unfortunately. I just follow the parts lists, directions and layouts for the kits I've built so far.

You're right though, I hope to use just ONE of the outputs (they just happen to all be isolated) on my PP2+ to power this 2 in 1. IF I'm able to internally daisy chain these 2 drive circuits somehow. You know, safely, so they sound alright and I don't get electrocuted. ;)

Basically going fro something like JHS Double Barrel withOUT the order changing toggle switch.

Thanks HamSandwich! I'm using a Voo Doo Labs PP2+ for power supply. It has isolated outputs.

Here is the mention of decoupling I was referring to. https://www.harmonycentral.com/forum/forum/guitar/acapella-29/1760944-

Tech Help - Projects Page / 2 drive pedals in 1 box?
November 05, 2018, 10:29:12 PM
So I'd like to rehouse 2 of my previous pedal builds into 1 box if possible. I have the Madbean Ego Driver V4 and a General Guitar Gadgets Klondike. I'd like to have the Ego Driver (true bypass) first, followed by the Klondike which has an always on buffer in the circuit. No desire for an "order changing switch".

If I could wire these into one enclosure I'd be super happy! Hoping to save space on my board, cables and free up another power outlet on my power supply. Can I wire them in series, each having it's own on/off switch but using a shared power jack in one enclosure? I've been assuming that I could simply connect the output wire from the Ego Driver circuit to the input of the Klondike circuit, and then connect both red wires and black wires to the same power jack.

Then I ran across a post or 2 that mentioned a need for "decoupling" and gave me pause. So I'm reaching out here for advice and clarification if possible.

I found this diagram but the 2 foot switches in it are wired very differently from the way each of my individual pedals are now. Should I just rewire them to match this diagram? Is this "decoupled"?

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

Peace

Thanks to both of you!

First I lowered the resistor at R5 from 18k to a 2k2. Worked great when the gain was down all the way! Very subtle and cleanish "crunch".

Then I decided that having a wider sweep in the lower gain range sounded like a good idea too. So I swapped the 1MA Gain pot for a 500K Log and it worked perfectly.

All the dynamics are still available and it seems to clean up even MORE than before with my guitar's volume knob.

Thanks for the info and quick responses! Made my Monday.

Cheers!

So just to be clear... I simply replace the 18k resistor at R5 to a 2k2 resistor?

Great! Thanks for info. I'll try lowering that resistor value and see where it lands. Peace!

I built my EgoDriver Ver.4 a few years back and I've love it,... mostly. When I have the gain knob all the way down or barely on at all, I'd love to have LESS clipping. Is this possible? To lower the "grit" or "distortion"? It's just has too much at low settings fro my taste. Just curious if there is a mod I can do to give it more headroom. I already run it at 18V most of the time and it's still too much. Any help would be appreciated.

Great! Thank you for the replies. It's fixed now. Apparently I had a pinched power cable from my Voo Doo PP2+ that was shorting out. Replaced that cable and all is well! Whew.

I'll check that out asap this weekend. I did open it up and there was no broken solder joints or short-outs with the power jack inside.

I worded my original post poorly (since edited). Sorry if I was a bit confusing. The pedal doesn't work at all.

Also, LED is wired straight to pcb.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Slambox died
December 07, 2013, 01:34:22 AM
Hey folks

I built a Slambox a couple of weeks ago. Work great for several hours of playing and then when I was unplugging a different pedal earlier in the chain...all of a sudden the LED blinked off, back on, then gradually got really dim until totally dark. Now it (the pedal) doesn't work at all.

I'm gathering that these BS170 transistors are pretty fragile but I thought there was some sort of protection built in to this pcb that was supposed to gaurd against this. Am I missing something?

I also realize that next time I fiddle with unplugging stuff I should have this pedal OFF so it won't happen again.

The real question is now what do I replace first. The BS170 or one/both of the diodes that are supposed to protect it. I guess maybe the LED is dead too?

Anyone else had this problem? Popping Transistors and/or LEDs?

Thanks

Hey dc001013,

Did you ever find an answer to this? I'm in the same boat as you were. Thanks!
