Title: Upcoming January releases and sale
Post by: madbean on January 06, 2020, 03:32:41 AM
The January releases are already listed on the Projects page and the boards will be here soon. I'll have a lot of verification builds to do as well as documentation so those will be released within the next two weeks.

With the January releases I will also be doing a "liquidation" sale
. A bunch of projects are going to be discontinued to make room for all this new stuff (no joke, there will be probably 30 releases this year). I don't know what all of them will be but for sure it will include the Collosalus, Dirtbaby, Honey Dripper and Kraken. The sale will be 50% off so I'm letting you guys know now because I don't want anyone to miss out on getting cheap PCBs :)

February releases are about 90% complete and should follow early in the month. That will be all the phaser projects plus a few other things I've been able to wrap up. More on those later.

March releases will be new FV-1 projects and the first few from the "pro" series. And, I'll also do the next giveaway (TBD).

IOW, I'm running on all cylinders right now and a LOT of stuff is coming together very fast. Really happy with this progress!

Lastly, I've finally done SSL certification for the site and everything should be re-directing to https now. If anyone is having troubles please let me know. This is an important first step to getting the new shopping cart system up later this year.

Is the low rider on the discontinued list? That was another one I've been waiting on to be back in stock

I'm waiting on that polyphase. Can't wait for February. Winter in Detroit is my time to build, to cold for anything else haha

February should be pretty off the hook. It's going to be phaser city up in here, and some of them will have tap tempo/waveform options.

Tap tempo phasers among 30 other projects??  This is going to make it quite impossible to finalize my pedalboard anytime soon..

Sarcasm, mainly, but this guitar effect building thing is making it harder and harder to remember what it feels like to be content with my setup, not to mention the heartbreak of taking a trusty old box out of the chain to make room for the new: with all the yang of these new and upcoming projects, there must be some yin.

It is indeed rare, but I did it two years ago.  It lasted three weeks or so without changes.

Honestly, I'm a bit embarrassed by the board I was planning to put together. It just feels like too much. I'm tempted to go another route and simplify. The f'n thing has like 4 synth style pedals!

As a guitar player in a little around town rock group I understand the embarrassment that comes along with showing up to a bar on a Wednesday with a 60lb pedal board to play a 45 minute set for $14 worth of IPA- so if the board in question is going to get similar use, say no more, however, owning and operating MBP gets you a bit more clout around here than I get down at the ol' saloon, so I think you should go for it, using as many synth pedals as you feel necessary.

I was trying to guess what circuit it was based on this afternoon.  My first guess was a 5 knob small clone, but you're one chip short.  Not sure if I want you to tell us or wait for reveal.

Oh, it's no secret. I started with the basic Little Angel design and just piled on some stuff no one has done with it. The main added features are a width control (for adding throb to the LFO), an interesting feedback control (I forget where I pulled this from but maybe it was a flanger design), a blend control for dialing in chorus to vibrato and running the PT2399 at a slightly higher voltage. It all comes together and sounds pretty cool. You can get some really fun "steel drum" type sounds (or maybe weird plate reverb?) out of it at extreme settings. PT2399 chorus is not as lush sounding as a BBD based one but it's a righteous enough effect on its own. It would be interesting to port this design to a BBD version at some point.

There are drill templates for several sizes of enclosures.   For the GreenBean, there are three options.

He has had both 1590a and 1590b/125b boards for both pedals for a couple years. I'm guessing maybe 2 different boards for each

Check the other projects listed as 'multiple' — there are drill patterns for 1590b, 1590b2, and 125b.

I've been checking out the new build reports and PCB pictures for the next batch of releases- very exciting indeed!  I'm a big fan of the new drive/distortion/fuzz layouts, and due to my curiosity I'm especially looking forward to the "Florist" and "Mysterioso."

If the man himself reads this, I'd like to say,
"Super-duper rad work, as usual- thanks for being continuously and increasingly awesome, Mad Bean!"

Cool, mang thank you!

I should have the last doc up tomorrow. The Mysterioso build is giving me a bit of trouble so I need to do some sleuthing. Anyway, assuming that's all good I'll get some stuff boxed up on Wednesday and start shooting some demos. I want to have demos released at the same time as the boards. So, I think Friday is the likely day for everything to drop.

I appreciate the added patience. In any case, it will be really soon. The thing I love about releasing 7-8 projects at once is absolutely nothing :) But, I'll keep doing it!

Also, there was an update to the Florist doc this afternoon. I realized I forgot to move the DC jack up on the drill template to accommodate the center 16mm pot. The pdf and PSD file have been updated.

I found out the hard way but luckily there was a spare .5mm as it was, so it's all good.

Final update: got backtracked with the sick kid this weekend but still made progress. Just need to wrap up the Mysterioso and shoot a quick demo of the boxed pedals.

Here's what's going on sale. These projects are being discontinued and will be discounted 50% off their normal price:

Aquaboy (Aquababy will still be available)
Cherrybomb
Collosalus
Dirtbaby
HoneyDripper
KarateShop
Moodring
EggHead
FatPantsJr

I know you been doing your faceplates for a while but I never get tired of admiring them because they look so freaking good.  Wish I had a 32nd of your skills there.
When the purge happens, maybe some will have the faceplate. I got lucky on the last one.

I would be extremely honored to display one on my board.  Even if I couldn't get the pedal to work, LOL (which now days is more common than not).

It happens in cycles I've found.

Last two done. I expect to shoot the demos tomorrow.

Ran into some problems with these builds. On my Rabbit Hole I had Q2-Q4 socketed while I was testing out my build and I left them in when I boxed it up. The enclosure lid came into contact with one of the transistors and shorted the output. So, I removed those sockets (word to the wise). Also, I had pulled an old 1590A bypass board out of my reject bin without checking it and the LED wasn't lighting up so I ended up putting in a little wire jumper to fix it.

On my Dust Bunny, I ended up having to re-build it as I desoldered one time too many and lost a couple of pads. No big deal, only took about 15 minutes. Anyway, I ended changing the Q2 bias resistor to 68k from 100k and then biasing Q3 to about 5v. Now I am really happy with it!

So, yeah, even I run into plenty of troubles now and again building. You just gotta keep at it and solve the problems.

Also, I finally got around to getting pre-programmed PICs for the Softie. I won't miss having to burn each chip.

That is very kind of you to notice :) I feel like every 2 or 3 years I make a bit of a leap in design and execution. It just goes to show everyone can do better no matter what level one is at! Hopefully that does not come off as egotistic.

No, not at all. I really like that you are still branching out.

Come on, you have to have some pride in your work to do stuff as focused, meticulous and creative as you do. Nothing wrong with that, or with raising the bar. (Although the challenge is kind of lost on me--someone whose idea of a pretty pedal is matching the color of my Dymo labels to the powdercoat.)

Uploading demo soon. I hope you like 15 minute videos.
Anyway, I'll do my best to get everything done tonight. Depends on how long this takes.

Glad to see the new stuff go live.  Nice demo on FB as well.  Order placed.
Thanks again for all the effort you put into the designs and build documents!  And I hope this means that you are feeling a lot better.

Late to the party on this one - is there going to be a Collosalus replacement, or is the M117 clone done?
