Tech Help - Projects Page / Fatpants hum?
September 10, 2011, 01:30:48 AM
Hey, does anyone else have a hum with their fatpants?

I've built v1 and v2 both with the same hum, but I am using s/h random 9v adaptors. I've minimized it using one of these

Anyone else with the hum?

Does anyone know if it's possible, considering components can handle it, and wether there is much of an advantage sonically?

Has anyone tried this before?

Does anyone know a good place in the circuit to add this sort of thing?

Hi there, does anyone know if the LT1054 will work in the fatpants? It has an operating voltage of up to 15v and the osc frequency is from 15khz to 35khz on 3.5v to 15v so I assume when running at 9v the freq will be out of range? Pin 1 on the LT1054 is different to the MAX1044, where it doubles the osc freq range when connected to pin 8 so its out of hearing range.

from the datasheet about pin 1 on the LT1054

"The feedback/shutdown (FB/SD)  terminal has two functions. Pulling FB/SD below the shutdown threshold
(≈ 0.45 V) puts the device into shutdown.

FB/SD also is the inverting input of the LT1054 error amplifier and, as such, can be used to obtain a regulated output voltage."

Will I need to cut the track between pin 1 and 8 on the iC?

Also will it be the same story with the Roadrage boards?

One more thing, I plan to use a roadrage board with this chip which accepts 15v dc to supply bipolar dc for powering a synth module (vcf) and am wondering if someone can confirm if thats going to work?

All signs point to yes but with my noob brain I can't be sure....

This is the cheapest option for me in NZ, smallbear at 1.70 (MAX1044 from futurlec and smallbear are 3.50 and the LTC1044 from futurlec are 3.90)

cheers

Roughly in that order... Is there an overdrive project anyone knows of that has a similar signal flow to this?

I'm after lots of 2nd order harmonics (I think) and a sort of adjustable saturation frequency control. There's a VST plugin called "Blockfish" which I'm always in danger of over-using, which is a compressor (amount and response (attack decay) controls) and saturator and am wondering if this sort of thing can be made into an analog hardware unit.

I want something that kindof warbles on the low frequency stuff rather than distoring, something that would make a drum machine wish it was married to.

Tape's not an option, but from my limited knowledge I'm thinking FETS, compander, germanium.

Is this sort of effect already available on one of the existing boards? It's kindof a dream effect for me, aside from some sort of glorious delay incarnation

Build Reports / Aquaboy with ddt & mod mod audio samples
December 10, 2010, 01:59:33 AM
SO here's are some samples, a bit experimental, but you can clearly hear the character of the delay. Used as a send from a desk on a rhodes, no processing or amping so you're just hearing the delay and the rhodes.

Mods include;

R15 = 68k (delay input volume?)
R31 = 39k (self osc point)
C23 = 1n box parallel with 1000pf ceramic

The two domes near the switch are connected to the delay time pot, so the glitchyness is coming from grounding those out.

Its not pretty on the inside, so I'll leave that one out I think...

Hi there, I am wondering if someone can tell which cap is filtering out the highs?

The second one I've built feeds back more on the lower notes than up high

I've used all mylar green caps on this one as opposed to box caps on the first one, but should that have made alot of difference to the tone>?

Would a dodgy delay chip have this affect maybe?

Hey there, can anyone tell me if its possible to use a DPDT switch instead? I've almost finished a Serendipity but only bought DPDT's which I figured out at the time would be sweet. Now I can't work it out...

General Questions / Aquaboy mods
June 24, 2010, 05:18:11 AM
Hey there, I've just ordered 3 boards and am wondering if its possible to add a switch to cut the dry signal, so the pedal can be used as a vibrato with the mod mod, and as a send effect for dubs? Would the mix knob turned right up have this function?

Also, would it be difficult or possible to add some kind of tone control thats not just attenuating, so powered and boosting treble or bass which would affect the repeats?

One more, is there a good place to add a footswitch which bypasses the feedback knob and while held down, sends the pedal into self oscillation?

Many thanks
Andy
