Title: Night Shift (Stage Fright build)
Post by: raulduke on August 02, 2013, 01:52:43 PM
Finally boxed this up over the week. It's a stock Stage Fright build.

It's sounding great; really nice 'chewy' phaser tones, and a nice variant from my Small Stone that I already have.

Another great project from Brian. Can't wait to see what other modulation goodies he has in store for us in the future  ;)

It sounds great on guitar, and also sounds great on keyboards, synths, Bass (as Jimilee will testify  ;)) etc.

The 5/6 stage switch makes a big difference to the tone of the pedal (as others have noted); it's a really handy feature, and is far more usefull than I thought it would be at first.

The enclosure is one of Ben Coles offerings (funnily enough the same finish as Juan Solo used on his Stage Fright build!). Lovely metallic turquoisy colour.

The Jacks (Lumbergs) were a sod to fit in the enclosure; the eagle eyed amonst you may notice I had to desolder the LM13700 and socket closest to one of the jacks and solder the IC in directly for enough clearance.

Anyway, hope you like the pics!

Cheers dude!

Here you go:

They are nice, and I use them in builds that are tight for space, but I still prefer good old (+ UK made) Neutriks for most applications.

That's a pretty build.  The enclosure color with black labeling looks great.

Wow that is beautiful. I had to do the same thing with the IC closest to the jacks, just a hair too tall.

That's a cool build  :) I agree Ben Coles enclosures are really nice.

Don't know how you managed to get those sockets to fit! I'm finishing off mine and putting them on the sides.

Very sharp looking pedal there, but then again so are the rest of your pedals.

I was wondering the same thing.

However you did it, another beauty!

Nice clean build. I love those knobs as well. Where did you get them? Could you please describe the difference between the Stage Freight and your Small Stone?

Radio Spares in the UK is the place to buy those knobs:

As for comparisons between the two, I haven't really spent enough time with them yet to make a really good comparison. I would, however, say that the Small Stone is a more subtle effect, and has a slightly warmer tone to my ears. This is probably mostly due to their being no depth switch on the Small Stone, so you can't go OTT with the thing (unlike the Stage Fright)  ;)

My recommendation would be to build a Stage Fright. It's a cool project for sure.

Small Stones on the other hand; the nano version can be bought for about $40, so I don't see much point building one.

Smashing as usual!  8)

Think I'm going to have to grab some Lumbergs also. they could prove really useful on super tight builds.
