Title: Phase 45 Transistors
Post by: billstein on August 12, 2013, 06:24:19 AM
Hi guys. I want to build a Phase 45 (Galacticon board) which calls for matched 2n5457's. I have two matched 2n5485's that I bought from GGG. Will these work? If not does anybody know where I could purchase the 5457's?
Thank you.

I don't know about those, did you write it down correctly, are they not 2n5458?
BF245a, 2n5292, J201, and probably many others will work.
That being said a huge amount of people seem to think that J201 will get you the meatiest phase, though 2n5292 is a historically "correct" choice.

Jacob has matched pair's and quads for sale, i bought some off him last week.

Every says how good they are, check out Jimilee's Galtacticon Phaser build report for a demo.

They are definitely 2n5485's. I bought them from GGG and they do work. I just finished up the Galacticon (Phase 45) and it sounds pretty nice, but not as deep as some others I have heard. Maybe I'll buy a matched set from Jacob and see if it makes a big difference.

Thanks again.
