Title: What kind of component is this? - From Power Supply
Post by: Beedoola on September 17, 2013, 08:16:55 PM
My dad's recliner chair isn't working as the PS is dead. I took it apart and pulled this piece which is reading open.

I've never seen one before and wondering what it is/if it is the reason the PS failed. I was getting open readings on traces and thought maybe it was the electro caps next to it - I removed them and measured them, they're fine.

its an inductor, dont know much about them but i think they resist changes in current or something like that

Yeah, it's an inductor. It's probably in there for power supply filtering.  An inductor should be a short at DC.

Yep, inductor. 14 micro-Henries.

You can use them in filters. You know, like a wah.  ;D
