I know velcro is probably the most popular but has anybody tried the bike chain method?

I've done it.
If you don't move your pedals around much it's really nice and secure.
It you do move your pedals around then it's a big pain.
Hm...the only problem is if you want to change out pedals.
What if you still screw the bicycle chain link to the bottom of the pedal, but have the material that the pedals sit on be something perforated, with lots of holes. Instead of screwing/bolting the chain link to the pedalboard, you could Just pop rivet the chain link to the board. Then if you want to change something out, cut the aluminum pop rivet, relocate the pedal and pop rivet it again. Just a thought.

I think that falls under the,"it's a big pain" part
