I saw a comment posted a while back that the LM385bz diode could offer a similar clipping characteristic as the rather pricey LM313h in the Kingslayer. But the LM385 has three leads whereas the LM313h only has two. Which of the three leads should I use if I want to try this substitution, and what happens to the extra lead? Does it get soldered to one of the two leads going to the pads on the board?
Datasheets are your friend.

So if I understand correctly, then, pin 3 is the anode and pin 2 is the cathode? In which case, pin 1 simply isn't used at all?
Yep. It's common practice to tie the odd leg in with whatever's in the middle. So, you could try and tie leg one and two together. Shouldn't make a difference.

Alrighty then! I'll give it a shot. Thanks folks.
