Only 71... sucks. I will listen to Velvet Underground today while cleaning the house. He will be missed.
Sad, sad, sad...

I'm the least qualified person to comment on Lou Reed's music, but I did meet him three times over the course of my career. He never remembered me, which was fine, because he was Lou Reed and I was some kid. All three times, he was wearing leather pants.
Lou enjoyed playing the character that everybody expected him to be -- as one of my mentors put it, "the gruff-but-lovable Frankenstein" -- but I got to see the way he was with his dog. He was a sweet man. He did more for rock music than most of us ever will.
