Title: R.I.P. Jim Hall
Post by: gingataff on December 11, 2013, 03:00:37 PM
Not sure how many jazz heads there are here considering it's not a genre that uses many effects, but we have just lost a legend, the great Jim Hall.

R.I.P Jim

Sad to hear this. Great player and by all accounts a great guy too. His work with Sonny Rollins is basically the beginning of modern (post bebop) jazz guitar.

Almost forgot: the last time I saw him at the Village Vanguard in NYC, he played his $$$$ D' Aquisto through a whammy pedal on a few tunes!

sad news indeed.  I met him once and he spent his break between sets showing two young girls some pointers and I was working hard to eavesdrop on the lesson.

He was a giant.
