Title: It's that time of year again...
Post by: juansolo on December 21, 2013, 11:14:07 PM
I've made my last pedals of the year. Indeed I think of all the things we've got to build coming up, only one of them is for me (mostly Cleggy's and a couple to sell).

So I think it's time to take stock again. This might take me a while!

Know what you mean. Made me think I need to stop and appreciate my builds more, but instead all I ever think about is the next project.

Pulled out my HoneyBee to play today (From a box) and was amazed at how damn good it sounds. Sitting on a treasure pile fretting about what I haven't gotten around to making next....

Sounds pretty normal to me guys :D But seriously, I've been making compulsory 'play time' lately.  I figure it would be an asset to be in touch with pedals, as well as build them :D

Honestly I think I'm down to two pedals that actually get used (the Klonpressor and the Space Ritual, so actually 6 really...). If it wasn't for keeping them all so people can try them, I could probably let the rest go in reality.

Though occasionally you plug something in you haven't done in ages and you remember just how cool it is.

Stock take complete... I'll make this clickable as I've actually listed what they all are in the big pic (as I had to look quite a few up).

I can see me purging a lot of this shortly now. I really only keep it for people to try, but it's getting out of hand now and there's a tonne of stuff in there that I just don't use. I wouldn't mind, I think I re-cycled about 30 boxes last year!

I have a very compact storage/transport solution. They don't take up very much space...

But yeah, there's too many there. Simple as that.

BUT

Having tried everything, I know feel I'm well placed to decide on what I actually like :) I really don't need to keep many of them at all if I wanted to be REALLY brutal about it.

I'll take the bottom row.   ;D

I appear to have two phase 45s... *blushes* I made a small one and couldn't bring myself to part with the Zombie Tramp.

If I count the multis I've got two Ultrastoners too (but that's legit as they're ever so slightly different).

That doesn't count the other bits I have to sell where I ended up with two CE-2s (long story), and of course, multiple Klones.

I've got some up for sale on another forum, but no nibbles so far. No point selling 'em here, be like taking coal to Newcastle.

I suspect it's partially due to the time of year: post holidays and people are broke.

I don't post builds for sale here for the same reason; people here can build their own so anything I had for sale would be of considerably less value here.

There's a good local forum in the UK (The Fretboard (http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/)) and I'll stick some on BKP occasionally. They take ages to shift if they go at all. I ended up with two CE-2s because my mate who makes amps had the one I made for him up for less than the price of the parts and it's a lot smaller than my old v2 Bean one.

But yeah, everyone wants them for nothing now.

If you could just mail me that Nurse Betty... :D

Jubal once again explained how I feel as well, worded it out just like it is. Too often do I get surprised with builds from the ancients that I have totally forgot about.

It's a fair point. I purged everything I didn't like last year, so pretty much everything there is a good 'un.

Jeez, I was just looking at my nearly totally DIY pedalboard, all built in the past 6 months, and I was feeling pretty happy even with my messy pedals.

And thankful for this forum, especially the kind words of encouragement I've received, along with some pretty serious technical help.

Hey mate! How many years of building are we talking here? Really impressive!!!

Just updated the big pic to make it more readable.

I've been building for 4 years or so. That's probably about a third of the pedals I've actually made... I suspect I'm easily into the 300's now counting Cleggy's, recycled ones and sold ones. I keep on top of my stash annually to stop it getting out of hand...

Hmmm, looking at the pic there are 3 pedals there that'll go or be changed as part of current plans. The Baby Boobtube is getting re-built as a HV Baby Boobtube (the Marshall pedal, not in shot will be the new HV Twin), the Wizard's Sleeve could do with re-boxing with some tube protectors. Especially as I keep bashing them and it's a great sounding pedal. Finally the Dual Radverb is getting some fettling (reverbs are going to be re-purposed now I have the Space Ritual).

Gotta build something :)
