So I just finished up a build of the Loophole Lo Fi Looper with the Vibrato mods from Jakefuzz and I can't get it to work. when I plug it in, I get dry signal (with quite a bit of noise) and if I hit record, nothing happens. no LEDs or anything, but when I click the play foot switch, my signal drops out and is replaced by this velcro ripping buzz with no signal behind it. none of the controls do anything to change anything with the buzz and the detune doesn't work either.
Also, the voltage regulator gets very hot, very quickly when I hit the play switch. I have been picking at this thing for several hours and am close to pulling my hair out. any suggestions? I have built several successful pedals in the past. this one is just throwing me for a loop (no pun intended)
The record button makes a ground connection. Therefore, check everything connected to it -- you've probably got a solder joint with something around there connecting to the 5V power rail, so when you hit record, it shorts the 5v to ground and makes the regulator start to burn up.
Ive checked all of the joints on the Rec switch. nothing looks wrong or weird.
Is the regulator backwards? Got pics and stuff?
Ok. did a bit of checking. resoldered a few things and cleaned up a bit. now the same problem happens, but this time, when I hit the Detune footswitch, the green LED comes on. This is the only time Ive been able to get an LED to light up. im going to flip the voltage regulator and see if that makes any difference...
Also, the voltage regulator is a L7805ABV. I was always a bit weird about it, because it doesnt look like the one in build pictures. it's bigger and more square... could this be it?
Ok. I measured the voltage on the regulator and I'm getting 9 volts, I know this is a problem so I need to change out the regulator. the only thing is, I have seen similar problems come up that have the same voltage regulator problem, but its a different problem...

Does it have the heatsink? It's just backwards if so.
