Title: .25 or .5 resistors for pork barrel?
Post by: Herostratus on February 14, 2014, 03:19:06 AM
Hi all, I have pork barrel PCB arriving any day now, and I have all components purchased and laid out for it. I have used all .25w resistors though, and have been noticing other builds using .5w. What is the consensus here? Should I get the higher W ones or not worry? Will using a charge pump for 15v need the .5's? Not that I am, but I can't seem to see anything in the build notes.

All the projects are designed for 1/4W resistors unless they specifically mention otherwise. The baby board projects use 1/8W for the most part.

yeah, 1/2w resistors are generally too big for pedal builds.

if the resistor looks "normal" in the layout pic it usually is asking for 1/4w.  if the resistor looks short and kinda stubby, that's 1/8w.  of course you can always make hairpin bends in 1/4w resistors and solder them in standing if you like.  often times that's more convenient because 1/8w is more of a pain to source.

Sometimes, you accidentally order 1w resistors and have to fit them in wherever and however you can.  Can you see it???
