Title: COMPLETED: 2 x Lovetone Flange with No Name
Post by: LaceSensor on February 21, 2014, 04:23:31 PM
Set out on the endeavour of building a couple of Lovetone Flangers (one for me, one to sell and cover costs)

PCBs
Mostly complete, need the "proper" LDRs which are en-route
Might finish them off with some other while I wait...

This one I'll keep, so dont feel too bad on using the name, unchanged.

Dremel tool was used for the square switch! Authenticity FTW

Those are going to be sweet! What boards are you using?

etched ones... Haberdasher did the legwork for a reasonable price.

... why didn't I think of a dremel, instead of a small drill bit, lots of holes, and a ton of filing? *headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk*

Pretty good, as always :) The action graphics could use a tweak to indicate oscillation past 3 and 9 o'clock, not to mention being 12 o'clock off.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. I should have thought about that. If I make any more I might do that.
TBH, I just stole the graphic from the pedal settings sheet....

Such wiring. Much hours. Many tired. Wow

Does work though, fired up first time ;)
Some experimenting to do with LDRs when Small bear sends out my order  ::)

Lovetone builds are almost always scary for wiring.

Just Wow  :o

Insane builds. I hope you recover your costs and then some with the sale of the other one. Fantastic work.

So, this actually happened, then.
Needs a minor tweak then I'll complete the 2nd one.
So far, the Flange (Time) circuit sounds very close to the original; The Trem (Space) circuit needs more depth, but I know the reason and its just waiting on a specific LDR to allow deeper sweep.

Hi. I didn't try it with two amps yet. I was really sick yesterday so only got so far as calibration :(

Both now complete!

Here she is, #2 which I am selling. Sounds killer. I have the original to side-by-side these with and they sound spot on.
Before anyone asks I havent chained up the two clones and the original, but I feel it must happen. Who has ever had the chance to play 3 Lovetone flangers together?!

Side by side with the other one (for sale is at the top, neater wiring) :

and finally, my mission to clone all the Lovetones has finally happened

If you don't do this, we're all going to be disappointed in you.

so the real question is... which one is your favorite?  8)

My favourite Lovetone is the doppelgänger.
The most versatile or interesting is the flanger.
The most crazy and therefore unique is the ring stinger

Having said that They all have individual tone, features or qualities not found elsewhere, or at least combinations of desirable attributes in a single box.

Example, doppelgänger is essentially a 4 stage optical phaser with univibe caps, but it has dual LFOs, square wave, high and low freq control. These features are in other pedals but not all together to my knowledge.

Likewise, the big cheese while a fuzz has a unique character, 3 tone options AND a gated 8bit broken speaker sound. Good value!

I highly recommend any and all

Ian
