Title: Working out power ratings
Post by: Gaslighter on April 29, 2014, 01:14:59 PM
I've noticed that some boards come with a shopping list of components whereas others don't. I want to build the smoothie and would like to know how many watts the resistors need to be. Grateful for any help.

With pedals, 99+% is 1/4 watt resistors. You can assume that 1/4w will do unless otherwise noted in build documents. Some designs are very dense or very compact and would require 1/8w for space savings. There are probably high voltage tube designs that would require 1/2w or higher. 1/4w is just right size/power wise for pedals though.

Welcome to pedal building and to the MB forum! Keep asking questions. This is the place for it!

The Smoothie is one of the baby boards, so additional build info is in the doc for all of them (http://www.madbeanpedals.com/downloads/BabyBoardGuide.pdf (http://www.madbeanpedals.com/downloads/BabyBoardGuide.pdf)).

It calls for 1/8W for the baby boards because of space constraints. 1/4W will work, but you have to partially stand them up and it won't fit in the 1590A box then.
