Hey everyone, I was thinking about building the power pellet. I have a couple pedals that are noisy and want to tame them, but the problem is finding the inductor. I really don't know anything about these inductors.....So, would one like these work? Thanks, Bluz. 8)

chromesphere mentions the inductor didn't do much and I would take his advice and substitute a resistor, anywhere from 10 to 100ohms will work. Since P (watts) = IV, the maximum current you can use before burning a 1/4 watt resistor is (0.25W / 9V) = 27.8 mA, so if you plan on supplying a lot of pedals, you should consider a 1/2 watt resistor.
that said, if you're still curious to try for yourself, that would probably be a good choice, it's a nice modern one designed for power supplies. it has a compact 5mm lead spacing too. i picked up similar ones (same spec's and footprint but coils are exposed) from futurelec although shipping takes forever! dunno if any of the other usual guys are selling them.
looking at the datasheet, these things have VERY small series resistance. I would suggest putting a small resistor in series after the inductor, this should create a very effective RLC filter.
I may be incorrect with this assumption but everybody that has built the power pellet with the resistor instead of inductor complain that the voltage drops significantly when powering more then one pedal. I never had this problem with my inductor based power pellet so I would suggest sticking with the inductor only.

Typically they're out of stock, so I think the one I posted is the closest thing.
When I stop procrastinating, I'll build it up and post back with the results.
To be honest, i wouldnt even bother with the power pellet, i would build a tonepad regulatored power supply. It filters out 99% of noise as opposed to the power pellet (beavis huminator) which only shaves off the bumps. Also does not require mains wiring and is simple enough to assemble. Anyway, just thought i would mention it.
Cool, thanks for that Paul. I did see that unit and it looks great. The "paua" one in a similar thread definitely looked impressive.
As for my cheap wallwart, I can find other uses for it. It was only $20, so no great loss.

I couldn't help myself. Got the stuff today for it (with the 220uH inductor).
It's on the breadboard and tested and it works well. Yes, there's still a bit of noise, but a WAY lot less than before.
I'll find something round the house to box it in.
The tonepad supply is still on the cards, but this was easy enough to make a cheap power supply useable (next time must remember to buy a GOOD ps).
